Oh bullshit people born as far back as the 50's have no work ethic . My father was born in '50 and has worked his ass off since he was a teenager. STILL working his ass off full-time at 60 years old. If my mother were still alive and hadn't been taken out by breast cancer she'd still be in her career full-time right now too. Never a handout, never an entitlement attitude, never blaming anyone for any hardships. The entitlment attitude I see comes from people WAY younger than my parents' generation, and hell even younger than mine. And the handouts are based on ethnicity, not AGE. Sorry but that's the truth. When I have a mom (white) at work tell me yesterday that when she applied for Medicaid they told her she's the wrong color, well that pretty much sums it up in a nutshell right there what's making this country circle the drain.

Speaking of sense of entitlement, I have days where I'm blown away by the the senses of entitlement that many immigrants have. The illegals are some of the worst. Many of them expect the good ol USA to support their babies without them having to do much of anything. I know someone who legitimately needed food stamps for a period of time. She was told if she had an illegal living with her she could qualify for subsidized housing, medical coupons and a higher food stamp amount by a Mexican lady working for DSHS.
This in itself is a subject for another rant so I won't get started on it.

You have no idea....I've delivered 7 checks to ONE address in the slums of Providence, RI. A little shack. Cambodian/Laotian last name...all different names on check. Dish on house. Lexus/Acura/Fast & the Furious racecar in the driveway.....you don't have to tell me.

Oh and don't forget the swing sets with the metal slides that would bake in the sun so we could burn our asses off sliding down them, and the metal chains on the swings that should have ripped our fingers off when we'd twist them up so we could spin until dizzy, lol.

It is funny, but once I had kids of my own I became much more aware of how pretty damn stupid a lot of things we did were, lol.

How could you forget. We would get the hose to cool down that hot fucking slide. Swinging so high on the swings, then jumping out like a damn hire wire acrobat.

It's wild how times have changed so much and how good and carefree we had it back then. S2M showing the Chuck Taylor's, we all got a pair when we made &

played on the jr. high basketball team, man those were the shit. Could only wear them at practice and at games, but fuck it, we wore them everywhere. Taking

our BB guns out in the woods looking to shoot something (which we usually shot snakes), but ended up with red marks all over for having BB gun battles.

Looking back that was pretty stupid seeing that an eye could have been accidentally shot the fuck out. But we had that rule of "No aiming at the fucking FACE!"

Don, I remember the Avon lady was a regular at our house during the week, OLD ass Mrs. Quickstead, what a fucking old bitch she was. I dreaded when she

made her way to my house. When I heard her in our driveway, I fucking cringed. She was the neighborhood "watch the children & tell on them" witch! I KNOW

my ass wasn't an angel, but fuck me, I was a BOY! I could tell some stories, but another day. One thing I'll ALWAYS remember about the summers in florida.

Going to the beach and seeing no fucking condominium's fucking up the beach's and when at home & being outside like I always was, my dad, always yelling,

"Steve, Get your ass home, it's time for dinner", which could be heard all over the neighborhood.

Recently a friend's 10 year old looked at me like I was nuts when I was talking about climbing trees as a kid. To him, climbing a tree means via a ladder to a treehouse. Not some platform roped in place made out of old pallets like my cousins and I made either - one that took a fucking architect! I told him he was missing out - we made flying foxes with a bunch of old ropes and a huge pulley we found, climbed 70 feet up huge old gum trees to tie other ropes to make swings (and then got down by hanging on tight to the rope and leaping out in the air to swing from it - how I didn't disconnect my shoulders doing that I'll never know), and eventually got a rope bridge going from one tree to another that crossed a creek. Looking back, it was all rickety as all hell, but we loved making it and we spent hours playing on it - and never an injury a bandaid or some arnica couldn't fix. My friend couldn't believe my parents and my aunt and uncle let us do it - I pointed out, they were the ones who taught us to climb trees safely, make good knots, and to test the ropes were safe. They taught us to look after ourselves, instead of wrapping us up in cotton wool. Her son by this time was playing tennis on the Wii - and they have a public tennis court 2 blocks down! It was a gorgeous day too.

The fact is, we talk about how much fun we had, but we're also the ones who are denying those experiences to our kids. We'd rather lock them up indoors than take the time to teach them to be independent, because we don't want to live with the worry about them, or make the time and effort to know our neighbours and their kids the way our parents did. And then we give them mobile phones so we can kid ourselves that they'll be safe, instead of giving them safe learning opportunities.

Did most of this and my aunt still got water out of a well, and had an outhouse. We stayed with her when my mom and dad worked nights in a factory. Walk to an outhouse in the middle of the night with nothing but a flashlight in a foot of snow! That is roughing it!

Ari, I spent half my childhood playing high in the trees, but nothing as inventive as you did! LOL! I also walked barefoot on gravel roads, picked polk salad and wild blackberries (It was a wonder I didn't get bit by a poisonous snake!), my pets were almost any creature I could catch........frogs, turtles, etc....... I had fun as a kid!

played in tunnels and ditches and me and a friend would shoot the snakes and throw them up on a stick to the dogs barking at us behind the fences above us.would play tackle football on an asphalt street wearing elbow and knee pads.wake up in the middle of the night as a teenager and me and a friend went too fast and scraped a tree with mom's car.she nudged me the next morning and asked me what the hell that mark was all on the side of her car.i played really dumb,lol.must've been a drunk neighbor! had a kid steal my bike when i was about 11.i knew it was the neighborhood bully so i walked straight into his house one night and stole my damn bike back.you'd get shot for that these days.skipped school as a teenager and spent all my lunch money at the arcade playing ms. pac man.,skipped school in high school in '87 to buy the brand new kiss cassette 'Crazy Nights'.sold it hours later to a friend because it wasn't as good as Lick it Up and Animalize.had heavy metal glam posters of Motley Crue,Guns N Roses,Cinderella all over my wall and little 9 year old cousin asked me if all those people were men or women,LOL.

I was the only kid in my hood with one of these...steering wheel and a wheelie bar, man that was cool.

Where I grew up, we called the tall seat frame a 'sissy bar'. Didn't do the steering wheel, but had a banana seat though...black & gold one on a gold Stingray bike. Also, you were really cool if your back tire was a 'cheater slick', and you had STP stickers. (And you had to make jumps!)
