A local McDonald's had a hiring day and thousands of people showed up. Some kind of argument started in the parking lot, a woman became enraged, and decided to run people over with a car. Classy. Notice everyone laughing and being amused on the video while everyone else stands around and doesn't help.
Just a great snapshot of "that" culture

Assuming this happened in a majority white crowd, there would not have been the critical mass of ongoers treating this like a screening of a new action movie. There may have been the bystander effect where everyone just stands around thinking someone else is going to help, but these people were going far beyond that: They were taking pleasure in the ghastly sight of people getting run over by a car like rag dolls. Disgusting and completely traceable to a certain culture's values (or lack thereof).

Well, we could get into a nobody wins argument, but I'm not into that. I do have one question for you; define "certain cultures." No question there's good, bad and stupid people all over this world.
If this was in a majority white crowd looking for a minimum wage job (the reason for the crowd). I agree they would probably stand around untill the person died with our I can't get involved attitude!! That's pretty sad too.
Ehwmatt wrote:Well, the bystander effect tends to happen when people witness a shocking/scary/traumatic event unfold live and they are too shocked/scared to help and think someone else will anyway.
Here, far more happened: a great majority of these animals took abject pleasure in the awful scene they witnessed. That's the despicable distinction.

I just re-watched this and to me it's pretty hard to tell what's being said during the car incident. I don't hear any pleasure, more like WOW!! she just ran over them or something like that. I also see a lot of people standing around with a few actively helping the injured. I do hear laughing during the fight, kinda like you hear during any fight, black/white/male/female. How about that stupid piece of white trash down South that encouraged her daughter to fight and watched it?
My issue is just categorizing all the people that were there. You're certainly entitled to your opinion and feelings.

How is it that when I watch this video, I see people trying to stop the initial scuffle in the parking lot. Then, after this deranged kook runs down people in the parking lot, I see people immediately come to the aid of the injured. There are at least two people on the ground checking on the injured. Yes, there are a great many by-standers who clearly don't want to get involved. And of course the "cameraman" offers no aid because, well, as is all too often the case, he's too busy filming.

Hey, on second thought, you may be right. I'll tell you what, I'll fly you to Cleveland, I'll drop you in the neighborhood that that McDonald's sits in at about midnight, and you can ask some of those kind folk yourself. They'll just love to see you. You can tell me what they say when I pick you up in the morning... if you're talking at all![]()

I spent 6 weeks in Cleveland and did walk after dark. The only problem was trying not to trip over the bums sleeping on the grates!! UGH!! But otherwise never a problem.

Matt. Cleveland's not as dangerous as you think it is. I've been in every part of Cleveland on many occasions, including at night, and no one has ever hassled me at all in Cleveland.
Ironically, I've come closer to getting into fights in some of the nice suburbs of Cleveland, like Strongsville and Westlake.

Cleveland proper is not that dangerous at all. But, once you go east or west of the city itself at night you're lookin for trouble. You're honestly telling me you'd take a midnight stroll on E 100+ and Euclid?
