It's his natural vibrato, and can't be helped. His voice works on songs like this, but in my opinion, doesn't sound good at ALL on Dennis's songs.

I happen to like the way he sounds on the DDY songs myself.

Cause you're a ballwasher.....no mystery there.

I have seen Styx a few times with LG. I saw them twice on their own and a few times when they were on tour with Boston in 2008. Never saw Styx with DDY, but I think LG does a pretty good job with Styx. Never saw Glen with Styx, but did see him just over a year ago with The Orchestra in Atlantic City.

Never heard any solo Gowan stuff before, but this song is great and I have listened to it a few dozen times. I can see why you like it so much. Pretty powerful song. I found the original Gowan version, and it has an extremely dated sound, but the arrangement that Styx has done brings a much more current feel to it. It's strange that this arrangement leaves the first few lines of the first verse out.

I thought Styx was great with LG and will go back and see them any time they are in the area. They should add this to their regular set list. Would probably help in establishing LG as the talented musician he is, rather than the perception people have of him being a low-grade DDY replacement, which he is not. Really showcases his strengths as a songwriter, keyboardist, and singer in a context where people can't say he's trying too hard to sing or play like DDY.

I, too, wish they would write and record full albums of new stuff rather than putting out re-records with scattered new material.

You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it. I agree that this should definitely be a regular tune worked into the STYX live set too. GREAT tune for them, and it showcases Gowan big time.

I will second that. With all the other stuff they can play, they don't need to do a cover of a Beatles song. Playing "I am the Walrus" isn't going to get people to go out and buy Big Bang Theory.

Tommy, JY, Lawrence, Ricky, Todd, and Chuck need to be locked in a studio and not be allowed to leave until they produce a new album. Between them, there is serious writing potential. What's the point in ditching your signaure sound if you aren't going to create a new sound with a new voice? Why have the new voice sing the old voice's music? Wouldn't it just be better to hire a sound alike for that?

There needs to be a new album that really showcases the musical talent of the new group. They're great players and songwriters. They've just gotten lazy.

Here are a few more gems from Gowan...

"City Of The Angels"- Has some seriously kick-ass piano riffs in it! I'd like to hear the album version of this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBFgn1eD ... re=related

"All The Lovers In The World"- has some cool hammond in it which is a weakness of mine! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1APzp7pk ... re=related

"I'll Be There In A Minute"- LOVE the cool-ass intro in this video with the piano... What a cool concept for a video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azeBR3Ch ... re=related

"The Good Catches Up"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pssKfiR ... re=related

"Cry On My Shoulder"- Very cool acoustic piano song performed live. Very solemn, but I really like it.
