Can you blame him? I don't. For the few times I look at this place from week to week, if even that often anymore, it becomes more obvious why less and less people bother about posting much. The high school passive aggressive b.s. and the "same thing over and over and over and OVER" is at an all time high. And the random discussion that has potential to be a decent discussion or debate (or random fun thread) always turns into the same thing with the same players.

I don't know what Dean's got going on other than things he's talked about here on the board, but I do remember that shortly before he chose to exit, he took some pretty hard shots about personal things from some folks who have absolutely no room to talk or judge - who needs that over and over? I don't know if that was part of what made him give it up, but I do know the feeling, and frankly, it's just not worth it. Sure he dishes it out pretty heavy sometimes too, some of the things I saw go back at him made me just

Well said Kim....I really hope Dean is alright.

You can't have it both ways. It's either, 'just a message board, people', or it is a place for people to get their fragile feelings hurt. EVERYBODY has passive-aggressiveness in posts from time to time. Some, more than others. Some wear it well, with others - it comes across as bitter whining.

I'll admit that I'm a douche most times than not. But it is my posting style. Not some evil plan to usurp the board, and cause shit on purpose. I question things, and that's my nature.

I've thought many times of leaving here....but most of the times it is fun, and entertaining. All you have felt the same. It's cyclical. Some stay during football season, then take off(Travis)...some have other reasons for the sporadic visits.

I think by now people have a good idea of people's posting styles. And it is QUITE evident when someone is actually being serious in their attacks.

So let's not channel chicken little and whine about how terrible things have gotten....although a few people have gone overboard(myself included), overall this isn't a bad place to hang out....

So let's cut the bullshit.....cause nobody's buying what is being sold.

I think this place is much better when he's here posting. It's fun, there are topics that are ALIVE, he's in the GOP's faces in the politics thread. The place really gets to buzzing. He's not up to snuff when he lets a few chowder heads run him off that easily. Everyone that cares needs to send him a PM, here or on Facebook and let him know that he's valued and missed. I think he needs to hear that.

But I agree, when you're not up to snuff, you don't want to come to a place and fight.

Frankly, I agree with that in full, but no matter what the reason is that he stopped posting, if indeed that was part of it, I really don't blame him and I respect him for walking away from it, being the "bigger person" so to speak. I figure when people won't let up on stuff that they know a whole lot less about than they think, and won't just let it go already, it gets real old real fast and eventually you have to just say screw it. Who needs people taking shots at them over and over that way when they already feel like hell - or maybe they don't but the constant b.s. starts to make them feel like hell. Kudos to him for walking away from that and (hopefully) ignoring it, because it's very very hard to do. We all matter and we all care what people think. It might be "just a message board" - that gets said a lot - but seriously, when it's gets too personal like that, you gotta figure it really wears on a person.

This board hasn't been the same since he left, it feels like a ghost town around here anymore, very little rolling on the floor laughing type of stuff. I really hope he decides to come back because this place needs a swift kick in the ass, it's a shame that a few rotten apples ruined a good time.

Agree with you completely Rick. It does suck for someone to tear someone else down knowingly in front of that person's friends, mutual or not, doesn't matter, and even worse for the person on the receiving end of that crap. I think it says a lot about someone's true character for them to do that, and it's a very shitty thing to do, no matter how nice people like that may act otherwise. And I don't blame Dean a bit for not wanting to stick around for that. I'm surprised some others who get shit on here stick it out.

As always, I wish for the best for Dean.

Ok, I got it....so either John, 7 Wishes, or I drove Dean off, and ruined the board dynamic. I see. That's a powerful revelation. I call bullshit, but if that's what you feel. But my question is: If we 'chowdaheads' drove him off, why the 90 day self-exile? That was given right away in a post to Drew.

I'm sorry the board 'sucks' now...I guess the posters who are here presently aren't good enought to sustain it on a daily basis...on behalf of the rest of the proletariate, we apologize....

I read this on a friend's FaceBook status and thought it was appropriate here:

"Life is unfair, but life is unfair to everyone, that makes it fair."

Dean has dished out his fair share of vile posts to most of us here and that was all OK because "that's just how he is." But now when a couple of derogatory comments are made toward him we are all the bullies because "he's going through a rough time?" How could anyone but his close friends have known that? Has it ever occured to anyone that maybe when he was making his rude, nasty, degrading posts toward others that they may have been going through a rough time? As I said earlier, I wish him nothing but the very best. I would never wish hardship of any kind on anyone but jumping in and making some of us look like the bad guys for a few comments that were far milder than a lot of the things Dean has said in the past is just not right...but hey, life isn't fair.

And just to be clear, I'm not defending RobbieG....he's an ass....I hope he's not going through a rough time right now, though or that would be totally inapproprate of me to say.

Two things:

1. Yes, Dean will sling mud at anyone, and some times it's got rocks in it, or it stinks like dog shit, and to give him credit, he'll not only take what is thrown back, if you do it well, he'll applaud you for it. But he doesn't pull personal information from posts people have made in the past and then use it against them, nor does he specifically target only one or two people he personally dislikes for his slinging. There are a few people he doesn't throw mud at, generally because he likes them and he knows they are people who will not take part in the 'game', and when someone tells him he's gone over the line, he will nearly always appologise for it. In fact, if he thinks he's going too far, in my experience, he'll send a PM to say 'this is just fun, I don't mean it really, don't be upset, ok?'.
Basically, he'll sling mud, and sometimes people get hurt by it, but he doesn't pre-load it with broken glass designed specifically to cut people. It doesn't matter if you knew he was in a bad place personally or not, you used something personal he has shared to attack him in a specific, deliberate way, and that was uncalled for.

2. Dean doesn't chase people who aren't currently active on the board. I know FF started this thread as fun, and I've been told by Dean he accepts it as such, but there are others who have piled on simply to whale on a guy who isn't defending himself. The comments you and some others have made were decidedly hitting below the belt, and it's worse because you knew he wouldn't respond.
Why treat life as a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in an attractive & well-preserved body? Get there by skidding in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, body totally worn out, screaming WOOHOO! What a ride!

Ding Ding Ding, right on the money! I've met him a few times, and sure I definitely don't agree with everything he says or does. But you'd have to be blind and/or deaf (or have just started posting yesterday) to not see he's got a huge heart behind all that gruff exterior.

I'll always have Dean's back. He's always been one of my favorite people on this board. Say what you want about the guy, but Dean brings something to the game. The guy tells it like it is, whether you like it or not, and is incredibly entertaining. Are some of his posts a bit over the top? Absolutely, but I'm certainly guilty of that as well from time to time. I've talked to the guy one on one and he's a good dude and a genuine person. I'll take a guy like Dean over sanitized, politically correct shit all day long. The reality is that this message board (and every other one) needs more personalities like Dean. The bottom line is this...even the people Dean has called out or even insulted on this board are people (most of them) he would sit down and have a beer with. I respect the hell out of the guy for that, because there are people on this board I would never meet face to face, because I know I'd slap the shit out of them!

And nor does it matter if anyone was aware or not of anything is moot. Nor should you use the excuse, "but they do it" to make your behavior justified. (Nothing personal toward you, Nat... just my own philosophy.) Where our words are concerned we're accountable for our own and that's that.

Ignorance is a justified defense at times. As far as the law is concerned? Nope. You'll get hammered. But in every day dealings, ignorance is a defensible position....

One can't pull the hurt feelings card when no one knew that something was going on behind the scenes....especially with guys. Not much is off limits when guys throw jabs back and forth. We talk about mothers. We talk about banging each other's sisters....pretty much anything.

If a few guys are going back and forth and a new guy says to another, 'Well, how about i nail your sister!' Come to find out the sister has passed away. You can hardly fault the guy for saying that. Granted, it will be an awkward moment....but hardly instance to rake the guy over the coals.

i very rarely post on here anymore but I gotta say there are some really smart posters on here. I mean, some of you are damn geniuses! You should all post your fucking PHD's as your signature for everyone to gawk at.
I dont give a shit either way but you got dean over here who can insult someone to the core and when someone else gives shit back to him then the devil has shown his face. I know hes the leader of your "in-crowd" but dont yall think he can take care of himself? Theres not a fucking restraining order prohibiting him from posting is there??? Holy shit.

I see the point, but like seen here, it's not so much a defense as it is just that when people see someone getting treated like shit in front of friends, it matters not at all what they may or may not be "aware" of. It's still a shitty thing to do to tear someone down knowingly in front of friends for their own personal agenda. And those friends have every right to call that shit out if they please, just as those dishing out the hate feel they have the right to dish that out as they please. Using personal problems to shit on someone publically, is WRONG, and shitty. Period.

Yes the word of the day is shit or shitty

Deano and I had our misunderstandings at first. Mostly because I did not know him very well. I grew to know him, and have found him to be fine. Is he rough around the edges? Oh yeah! LOL! But he knows I like him as is. He accepts me as is.
We see very little eye to eye. He is liberal, I am moderate conservative.
I am gentle natured and peaceful, and he can be controversial. (But mostly to get a laugh, I mean, think.......he has said stuff to me that would make a sailor blush! and I LAUGH!    )

He has a big heart, and has done many kind things for folks.

He in truth means no harm to anyone.

We all have people that get on our nerves here. I am sure many don't like me. But if you sit around waiting for everyone to love you in a large community aren't you setting yourself up for disappointment?

We will have clashing personalities. I personally have grown to love most of you for who you are. I don't expect you to be anyone but yourselves with me.

I appreciate people like Ari who come in when I get pissed off at someone's attitude, and she makes me chill out. Sometimes we all need to take 5 and chill out.

And maybe, just maybe, learn to like others for who they are. I can even love some things about Parfait, when he is not being so full of himself.
