Anyone Else NOT Care About The Royal Wedding?

General Intelligent Discussion & One Thread About That Buttknuckle

I didn't know you guys got a lot of tv coverage for this kind of thing.

If your telly's are as swamped with it as ours are over here, then I feel sorry for you.

Today on every channel they have been reporting every five minutes that the people taking part in the Military procession had their rehearsal today.
And one guy has already set up his sleeping bag somewhere along the route.

Thing that puzzles me most is how come that cute chubby faced little boy has suddenly turned into a hybrid of Prince Edward, Prince Charles, Princess Anne and a horse overnight?
Let's hope his Bride's genes are dominant when they start breeding.

Question: Does the Horse REALLY care that much for the throne? I'm hearing the public wants the 'newlyweds' on it as soon as possible, but Horseface has been coveting it for eons....

Its true that HRH Prince Charles has broken the records for longest time an Heir to the throne has waited to ascend to the throne.

But it's in the British Constitution that Kings don't skip a generation just because a load of Royalists hate Charles for cheating on Diana and want him to be punished by never becoming King.

So he will be King when Queen Elizabeth II passes on, and William will have to wait his turn.

The only constitutional change the powers that be are considering is that out dated rule which says the heir to the Throne has to be male.
The other European Monarchies have scrapped that.
And we may follow suit.

So that if William & Kate's first child is a girl, the girl could be Queen instead of having to step aside in favour of a son.

Can a monarch just quit being King or Queen, or does it only pass on once they die? Could She have abdicated the throne years ago?

Al Queda has to be salivating over this thing...

A Monarch can ask permission to abdicate, but there usually has to be a good reason. And only Parliament has the power to allow them to abdicate by writing an Act of Parliament. So the hereditary Monarch is stuck with the job until death do them part.

And keeping Prince Charles waiting around in a life of unbelievable privilege and luxury while she does all the Diplomatic work isn't really deemed a good reason for the Queen to abdicate.

I only know of one Monarch abdicating [I'm no expert though, so there could be more] and that's King Edward who wanted to marry Wallis Simpson but wasn't allowed to because she had been divorced.

So he jacked it all in so he could be with her.

All this Protocol stuff must make them very unhappy sometimes.
But they choose the luxury lifestyle, so that's the price they pay.

Oh God, sluce, don't even joke about that.

It's a big worry.

Hundreds of harmless people are heading for London to watch the parade go by and most of them don't have a political or racist thought in their heads.

Let us all hope the day passes by safely.

I read something earlier that I didn't know... that William's full style and title is "His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter Master of Arts", and that once he marries, it's customary to receive a dukedom, AND once Charles takes the throne, William immediately receives 2 more titles of Duke.

Well it's not as if he has to write many checks.

And I think he's known as 'William Wales' for that kind of thing.
Not sure though.

I imagine the Queen will make him Duke of something on Friday. And Kate will become Duchess.

Kate will become "HRH Princess William" on Friday even if the Queen doesn't make them a Duke & Duchess of somewhere as well.

Obviously they can't become Prince & Princess of Wales while Charles holds that title. Charles is also Duke of Cornwall.

When Camilla married Charles, she said she did not want to be known as Princess of Wales out of respect for Diana. But she is actually Princess of Wales even if no one refers to it.
She is always referred to as Duchess of Cornwall.

I supose when Charles inherits the big gig that both his Wales and Cornwall titles will pass to William.

Dunno, though.

It's all so bloody complicated.

All I know is that the f**kers will have a life of luxury and never have to worry about where the money is coming from to pay the next bill.

And yes, BB - I will watch it.

It's part of my country's history. And it will be pretty difficult to avoid.
We are being force fed the Royal Wedding on every tv channel already.

I think Windsor was one of the choices. I don't remember the other two choices.

Then I hope you enjoy it, BB. It will certainly be full of old fashioned pageantry.

I'm thinking her dress will be very classy and tasteful.
Not a wide skirted and puffy sleeved meringue type.
I'm thinking straight, tight fitting to show off her slim figure. Elegant.

And as far as I know she isn't allowed to wear a Tiara until after she is married because she isn't Titled yet.
So she will probably do a neat switch when they sign the marriage registers so that she can walk down the aisle with a Tiara on once she becomes Princess William.

Fergie did that when she married Prince Andrew.

Let's hope this marriage is happier than THAT one!

Its all so complex.

I havent a clue.

But the concensus of opinion in the Press over here is that he will be made Duke of Sussex, and then maybe Duke of Ross. So that he's got an English and a Scottish title to add to being William of Wales.

But apparently there are loads of Dukedoms the Queen could pick.

And there has been a lot of talk that William has said he doesn't want any more titles. That he is happy to be Prince William and for Kate to be Princess William until they become King and Queen.

So we shall have to wait and see.

Sussex... that's the one I couldn't think of.

I was reading some stuff about the history and naming and titles of the Royal family a few days ago... it's complex, but I found it interesting!

Of course I will record it and watch it(I'm not that nuts to get up at 5 am)...I watched Diana and Charles in '81 and Sarah/Fergie & Andrew's. Personally, I dislike wedding ceremonies (I was pressured to have my own when I just wanted a jp), but this is a big deal so I gotta watch.
I have been watching a bunch of stuff on BBC America on the Royals and boy, am I getting depressed. I would never want that kind of life in a fish bowl. To think that as an heir to the throne you are never allowed to chose your own path in life...unless you abdicate like Edward did for Wallis Simpson. But, if William abdicates when he becomes King, since he is reluctant to be one, then it will be his brother who is really a wild boy...is that what will happen? After 1000 years of kings and queens will it end soon? I find it pretty interesting, all the history of the English royals, but I can't imagine...I don't care how much money or privilege you get, it must still be awful to not be annonymous and just do your own thing, to me that is prison-like. Oh, well I descended from the Pilgrims so there ya go. :)

Yep the news are saying it will be Duke of Cambridge now, not Sussex.

But William has often said he doesn't want a Dukedom as well as his title of Prince.

So we shall see what happens tomorrow.

In answer to who would ascend to the throne if William were to abdicate - it would be his first born son, if he had one by then. Or first born daughter if Parliament pass a Law to allow that [as has been mentioned a lot recently] - or if there was no child, the job would go to naughty Prince Harry.

And yeh, I'm hoping they will do ok.

Lets face it, Diana was only 19 and she thought Charles loved her and she had no idea how the world's Press would hound her.

William and Catherine are 29, a good ten years more experienced than Diana was, and they know what the Press can be like, so I think they are better prepared.
