Singer Rick Springfield was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk through Malibu in his vintage Corvette over the weekend, police said on Monday.

Springfield, 61, was taken into custody on Sunday night after failing a field sobriety test, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman said in a statement.
The singer, best known for his 1981 hit "Jessie's Girl," was stopped by sheriff's deputies after rapidly accelerating his 1963 Corvette along Pacific Coast Highway in the celebrity enclave of Malibu. He "exhibited signs of alcohol intoxication," the statement said.

A breath analysis showed that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent, above California's legal limit of 0.08 percent, the statement added.

You drove on PCH last time you were here in Malibu, right? There are Speed traps all over that fucker (though its usually to catch motorcyclists). Springfield should have known better, he's lived there long enough.

Drove between Gladstone's restaurant and up north toward Malibu virtually every night. I always do the speed limit, though, and didn't drink and drive during that particular vacation. Probably because when I drank, I DRANK.

And he might... first report I read yesterday said he measured at both .10 and .08. Hmm...

Love that mug shot! Celebs really know how to milk those photo-ops... I still remember Robert Downey, Jr.s, and if that wasn't a calculated "dark look", don't know what is. But at least they don't do like Flavor Flav (and every other hip-hop star who gets arrested recently) and claim to be victims of rookie-ass cops out to make themselves famous.

Rick Springfield threatened to kill a deputy sheriff and the deputy's family the night he was arrested for drunk driving, yet there is no mention of the incident in the arrest report, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Springfield was arrested in Malibu on May 1 and blew a .10 -- above the legal limit.

Sources tell us Springfield was extremely angry after the deputy said his $200G 1963 Corvette Stingray would be towed away. Law enforcement sources tell us, Springfield yelled to the deputy, "If you tow my car, I will f**king kill you and your family."
