Songwriting Credits

Postby KingdomOfMan » Wed May 04, 2011 5:00 pm

Have individual songwriting credits ever been disclosed for Journey songs? As in, who primarily wrote each track? I'd just like to know how to indicate that a song is more 'Perry', more 'Schon', more 'Cain' etc. I had a list once of who was acredited to specific Beatles songs and it made me wonder...

You can find that on the liner notes of any album.

In regards to the Perry era you can't tell who contributed the most based on the order they are listed as Perry's name comes first from Escape on. I assume this was a demand he made as its doubtful he did more work than Cain on any song at all, much less all of them. He is even listed first on Open Arms which was all but finished before Cain joined the band.

The liner notes only tell part of the story. If you check with the Harry Fox Agency (that sounds funny, I know), the government sanctioned licensor, collector and distributor for mechanical royalties in the U.S., you'll find Perry's name listed with Cain on Faithfully, even though it's not found anywhere on the physical product.

Ha, not quite. I actually own every album on CD, some on cassette and three on Vinyl. I do understand the concept of the songwriting credits, but sometimes they can be misleading as to who did what or who had the major input on the style/sound of a particular track.
