"I will bet you that Walmart execs studied the costs of making this "sleeve" and determined that the 10 cent decision would save that corporation tons of money. I have never seen a cost conscience operation in my lifetime. Maybe that's why they net 22,00 dollars every second their doors are open, IDK. Either way, this just shows how cheap Journey the organization is. I am sure they had some sort of veto power on THEIR Intellectual Property. Many other artists who do the Wally deal choose plastic cases. This is disappointing.[/quote]

walmart dosent dictate the product, they just agree to buy it , its amazing what people bitch about on here, i could see if journey were the only ones to do it
its quite common to have paper sleeves.
the bands put together the package when they dont have a label, and they foot the bill for everything, walmart is just the reseller

No one has "bitched" about it, I've simply laughed about it because it IS funny. I've bought plenty of cd's with cardboard covers too but they STILL at least had the plastic inside for the actual disc to be stored in, and still better quality than the envelope Eclipse is packaged in. Simple fact.

Absolutely; Sam Walton was the king of the 10 cent margin on mammoth sales volume. Only works, though, if you maintain minimum quality standards that the buying public will accept.

I agree with you up until the waning last sentence- the public will buy whatever Walmart tells them too won't they? Does not the price dictate or influence in a heavy way, buyers decision? Add to that this product is ONLY available at a Walmart store. Sammy's got you on Eclipse.

Maybe on Eclipse ... but read an article the other day that WalMart is having to regroup ... sales stagnant or falling in stores that have been open a while. Losing out to Target on trendiness and perceived quality difference of seasonal cheap crap. Also their decision to offer less brand variety was a dud; if people can't find their favorite brand of deodorant or laundry detergent, apparantly they buy it elsewhere instead of switching to what WM stocked.

Not me, there's a lot of garbage in that dump that I refuse to buy. Their quality sucks, even some of the brand name products. I've looked at the same brand name product in walmart and target and the one from target was a lot better quality.

Walmart = Cheap, period.

So I was half right...That Sammy does have the Journey purchaser by the balls, because he is the ONLY seller of Eclipse.

And you are ecxactly right about Target v Walmart. There is a distinct difference in quality. However, we know that Walmart plays better in certain demagraphic areas of the country, cough cough, below the Mason Dixon line......Target plays very well here...in fact Walmart is not seen until you travel 90 minutes east out of Los Angeles into redneck smog territory of San Bernardino county. I once remember it was a three horse race with Walmart leading, Target a close second and Kmart not being able to decide what direction they wanted to go...I think they are still trying to decide, because their stock is stagnant at best. They just don't have a niche they can tap.

Who exactly takes care of the packing product? Journey? Journey management? Does Wal-Mart (the distributors) have a say in how the packaging needs to be handled by band requirements?

I only shop at wally world out of necessity, I can't justify driving an hour and a half in the opposite direction just to shop at target. Not at $3.89 a gallon anyway.

Can people be blamed for loving the essential components of the truck in which they lost their virginity (to their first cousins) and carried the carcass of their first hunting victim (probably a black guy)?  :P

Fixed it fer ya.

Actually Gid, I was in Kentucky and it is a beautiful state. The horse is truly revered there. Miles and miles of lush green acreage abound the countryside. I traveled from Cincinnati in a van with an overweight pig of a woman. I met her online, when the net was on fire for meeting people to have sex. Anyway, I remember it being Compuserve too! So I fly overnight to Cincinnati, end up seeing this pig, and not liking what I saw, I needed a drink, or 15. So I coerced her to waddle to the nearest airport bar where I lied( ), and told her flying unnerved me(it does, but I was unnerved by her manly scope...this broad could start for the Bengals). So after about 60 bucks of Molson Canadians, yes they have that in the Queen City, and a couple hammers of jaeger, I ventured to the hotel with this behemoth. Mercifully, the booze kicked in, and I am not really a true asshole, I ended up drilling and filling this all pro linebacker wearing panties and a bra...and immediately passed out. Seriously though, I remember saying a prayer to God, both asking for forgiveness and also not being woke up in the middle of the night for seconds. God delivered baby! Next morning, I am up and she was still asleep, so I escaped downstairs to the Dennys and grabbed the sports page and threw back a couple Canadians we had left over, and mowed down a Grand Slam....I know rude, eh? I didn't even invite her.

I noticed the Blue Grass Stakes was being run that day, so I suggested we roll to Lexington. We did, and what I saw OUTSIDE my window was goregeous. Beautiful country. However, once inside the local bar 40 miles out of Lexington, the first thing I saw were two dude wearing Skynard cut off sleeve T's and air guitaring with bowed and warped pool cues. I started to wonder what fuckin country I resided in. Wasn't about to reveal I voted for Clinton or liked black folk. Instead, I acted my way through a game of "quarters," which I dominated...yes, we played quarters with Necks at 1045AM in the morning on a rural highway in northern KY. Well inebriated, we rolled to the track. Things opened for me there I tell ya.

ALL the women dress up for the races, especially the Big Stakes races, which the Blue Grass was. They all wear pretty dresses, fuck my ass heels and cute hats. Remember Vince Vaghn in Wedding Crashers saying in the church on wedding day, "well, that girl in the hat just eye fucked the shit out of me?" That's the feeling I had. I was hard all day at the track, despite being more than drunk. So the very first race, I walk up to the betting machine, and bet...the wrong track! The result? I won. The numbers I wanted at Keeneland, Kentucky, I bet for Toronto, Canada, and they came in, something to the tune of 300 bucks for a 22 dollar wager. So I continued to feed the buzz, not increasing it mind you, but keeping it alive....I managed to do okay all day up until the Blue Grass which went off as the 5th race I believe. ESPN was there and so was my favourite jockey, southern California rider, Kent Desormeaux.(MG knows how to pronounce that I am sure  ). Anyway, the race goes off, and I am heavy on this bad boy.In deep to the tune of about 400 bones, my horse rounds the far turn with the fucking lead. I am going nuts...I look to the 2nd place runner and that's my exacta horse so now I am going ape shit. I got so excited I knock over a couple ROWS of people, many women, in those pretty dresses and flirty hats. Uh oh. Hmmm...Down the stretch they come, and my jock, Kent, veers into the oncoming 2nd place horse, and is disqualified! I threw a fucking hissy fit! I verbally degraded that sonofabitch, yelling every possible curse word known to modern man at him as he walked to the paddock. Security had me in cuffs in about 8 seconds. Not proud of this at all. The women were actually applauding this arrest. I felt so rotten......and to top it off, I pissed my in my pants because I was so drunk...had wet fuckin socks there was so much piss. I distictly remember riding the 90 minute journey to Ohio with soaked jeans and socks, smelling like a barrel or 3 of urine. Every turn my underwear squished against my chapped cheeks and my balls were chaffed.

Yet, and this is a miracle, the linebacker FWB for the weekend, still managed to get me to Cincinnati airport that evening.

Sorry for the rant, just wanted to give props to Kentucky, a state I am no longer able to legally visit openly. :D

Walmart doesn't have much of a presence in Portland OR metro area. Maybe 1 in Hillsboro, a couple out near Gresham, and the rest are up in Vancouver Washington. 20 mile trip just to get one from down here in Lake O, but I'll go and find it because I liked what I heard from the samples.

That's exactly what mine started doing, or rather it would lock up completely in my disc changer during track 9. Swapped it to another slot and had the exact same luck. Next day it seemed to be better, but it does have some scuffs. I'm exchanging it today. Will this count as 32 scans now? :)

That's an idea... Keep exchanging them to boost # of units sold.

Keeneland is one beautiful racetrack. Deano had it spot on about the ladies.

My visits were a bit more uneventful however.

If you like horseracing or just a fun day out, I recommend it.

I hate going to Walmart and I will now make my third trip in there in 3 days. First two times they said they didn't have it or the register wouldn't read it. They better have the damn thing there today.

Of all places to keep having these exclusive deals. :x
