You just had to start out on Steve Perry, as you CONSTANTLY do at "MR" huh?
Steve Perry is the greatest singer/frontman the band has ever known, and guess what - NEVER HAD TO COPY ANYONE IN ORDER TO SELL.
"I just flat out prefer Perry's voice."
The music Steve Perry created with the band and made famous with his great voice has stood the test of time - over 30 years, 80 millions albums sold.
Robert F. was the first singer and Greg was never really considered the singer or frontman, but none of that matters, b/c they only came to prominence with The "Voice," Steve Perry. And if I may quote a reviewer of one of the band's recent shows earlier this year "The band's greatest glory, Steve Perry."
Be sure to enjoy your Eclipse CD (can't manage to listen myself) b/c the band knows what it has to play when it hits the stage - "The Greatest Hits."

Facts that are irrelevant to the album, my dear Michigan Girl. So what if Perry was what made the band big? I know that as well as anyone else, but unlike others, I wasn't there for 1981 Tokyo, or any other notable Perry-era concert. And I was a toddler when Trial by Fire came out.![]()
Either way, I'm laughing my butt off here.

This is a No Whining Zone!! ( I know you're laughing)
Unlike many fans of the band, I never really cared too much about Steve Perry. Great singer and was the original "Voice" of the band (if we're not counting Gregg Rolie of course), sure, but by no means was he the band's God.
And honestly I just flat-out prefer Arnel's voice over Perry's.
And I love progressive rock. I like music that makes me think. Music that has a lot of twists and turns. Music that shows the band playing it are capable masters of their craft.
And that's exactly what Eclipse does. Bearing several really heavy rockers and no -sappy- ballads (there are a couple of ballads but not at all like how they usually are), Eclipse is proof this band still has the magic.

Excuse me but Steve Perry TOTALLY COPPED Sam Cooke's style. Listen to Sam's "Nothing Can Ever Change this Love" and then listen to "Lovin Touchin Squeezin". Steve COMPLETELY ripped off the style and phrasing (not to mention some of the lyrics) from Sam. Steve Perry was a vocal god, but he wore his influences on his sleeve and he always admitted that fact. "The Girl Can't Help It"- Hardly an original title- just ask Little Richard. Same with "Ask the Lonely" more like "Ask the Four Tops". Not to take anything away from Perry. The guy was an amazing singer. But the person who sent this to you doesn't know what they're talking about.
The fact that this person feels so threatened by Arnel is so ridiculous, yet indicative of a lot of Perry fans, mostly the female ones. It's also typical that they'd complain about the new album without listening to it.
Three guesses who sent that to you ...

My review? Well, if you're interested, here it is. I didn't go into specific songs, since I had already reviewed several songs separately (you can do that there)Unlike many fans of the band, I never really cared too much about Steve Perry. Great singer and was the original "Voice" of the band (if we're not counting Gregg Rolie of course), sure, but by no means was he the band's God.

And I suppose you might have a point, but on the whole, there's nothing wrong with what I said. I merely stated my rather rare position in the fandom and actually progressed to talking about the album.![]()
Both me and the guy who responded are entitled to freedom of speech, certainly, but the difference is this: I was only reviewing an album and stated my view on Journey, the other guy got pissed off about my personal opinion and ranted off in response and came across as totally immature.![]()
Hence why I'm dying of laughter, Michigan Girl.

God.
I see that term bandied about a lot by the Flip brigade when ever they try to equate something with the Fans' adulation for SP.
Are we possibly going to be treated to the obligatory PEACE! from you also in the near future, at the end of each and every post?

I couldn't agree more. "Tantra" is the worst song on the album because of this, in my opinion, and besides that, it doesn't do much for me musically, either. To Whom It May Concern - "Man is love." - Man is not love; God is. Journey doing God talk = Fail.
I welcome the criticism that is being leveled here. When ever you mix religion and politics with your music, you're going to get hammered whether it's deserved or not. All musicians should already know that from music 101.
While not being a religious person myself, I think if you're going to introduce that element into your music, you had better damn sure cover all your bases.
And to think, a year ago I was actually joking about them becoming a Christian Rock Group with the introduction of more pious fans over the last three years and the band's new motto of clean living.

Packaging sucks as others have said (though I have seen a few of my other recent music cd purchases have the same cheap slide in card board cover). Will give a simple review soon. Nothing in depth. I have found the more I scrutinize music the less favorable I tend to be toward it. Just spin it a few times and see how it hits me. Simple as that.
