Same here. Feels too much like a soundtrack to an action B-movie. But in order to have a fair opinion, I should listen to it more. Just wasn't intrigued by anything I heard to give me the want to do that.

VirgilTheart wrote:What pisses me off is the deluded notion some fans have that Perry can still sing like it's 1981. Did any of those folks ever listen to Trial by Fire? Add over 15 years on to that and anyone who really still thinks Perry can sing like he could in his youth is either not thinking straight or they're stuck in nostalgia.

LOL, I chuckle everytime I see that posted from a Perry naysayer. For the most part, I think Perry's fans KNOW he can't sing like it's 1981 nor expect him to and are fine with it. I think a lot, and I'm definitely one of them, like the more raspy earthy direction his vocals took after '81.....but then it's soooo much more about delivery and soul than it's ever been about range. So I don't see his not singing like it's '81 as a minus at all, I see it as a plus. I see more Perry naysayers pissed off at him not having his '81 vocals then any Perry fans? :?

By all means, we all have our vocal preferences and that's great, you prefer Pineda's and I prefer Perry's (and Martin's and Soto's). 8) Three very different tones, but all having the R&B influenced vocal delivery that is a must for me.

And saying that, we can speculate all ya want, but nobody really has any idea of what Perry sounds like vocally TODAY.

Intell wrote:OK- so start releasing the flaming darts now.

The packaging...hmmm. The lyrics are TOTALLY SCREWED UP!!! Some missing, some wrong, REALLY BAD!!!! I would LOVE to be the one who proofs the next CD jacket, including the lyrics. Please, pick me :D I would sign a gag order.

I LOVE the music. Favorite so far; Edge of the Moment. The ONLY thing musically that have a slightly negative note on is, She's A Mystery; it could have stood alone without the added rockin' ending. I still like the song, the ending just felt a little out of place.

OK, so my issue is with the lyrics. I have my own VERY STRONG opinions/convictions and I will lay them out there, because EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion. Someone, please call 911 now, because the blood will be flowing out of me at a drastic rate right after this is posted.

Tantra- "Many roads lead to heaven"- I personally disagree. Also the basic theme- is based upon Eastern religion, which is not my cup of tea. "Tantra watch over me" - Tantra def. "loom, warp"; hence "principle, system, doctrine" or "The spiritual art of love...of connecting spirit with form", so how can that "watch over me"?? Just askin'......

Anything Is Possible - "You don't need a miracle. Anything is possible." - I do believe that anything IS possible, but sometime it DOES require a miracle.

To Whom It May Concern - "Man is love." - Man is not love; God is. "Man is animal" - Guess I think of us as "human" not "animal". "No Hell to burn" - unfortunately, there is a hell and it is burning, whether we acknowledge it or not.

So I really love the music but MAY not be recommending the CD to a lot of people, because of the lyrics.

Here we go....

To put it bluntly, you are an idiot. Humans are animals, and there are no such things as miracles. Google "biology" and "probability" to get started started. Having said that, edge of the moment is my favorite too!

Yes, the hidden bonus track titled "Peace And Love" at the end of the disc.
It has the greatest riff ever, and a kick-ass guitar solo.
The only way to hear it though, is this. If your a guy, go outside on the sidewalk and hop around while smacking your ass repeatedly. You have to do that until at least 10 cars pass by and see you doing that.
The only way to hear the bonus track if your a woman is by sending me topless photos of yourself. You can send them to me via-Private message. And please remember...this is not for my benefit, it's so that all of you ladies can get to enjoy this tremendous bonus track.

Can anyone else see the song Someone being the theme for a TV show like friends (but set in the early '80s)? A Door pops open with each individual character peering out with one of those "Who, me?" looks on their face every time the lyric "someone' gets sang.
I can totally see this in my mind's eye.

I could see it the song as a movie ends and the credits roll. I need to add that to my review.

Meh. I suppose you're right, but there is certainly a very vocal minority of 'em that are convinced his pipes are just as good as they used to be. That's who I refer to when I say something like that.

I'm not at all angry with Perry for not having his old voice, personally. In fact, I'm right with Neal Schon himself in that Perry's voice was at its best on Frontiers. I just don't like the idea of him returning to Journey at this point in his life and singing songs meant for his old voice(s) and him not being able to even come close to succeeding. Especially when the band already has a talented singer who can sing the songs much closer than Perry most likely can now.

But, being honest here, if Perry did return, my biggest concern with him wouldn't be the range. I just have a feeling the soul isn't there anymore. Maybe it is, but I once had a sort of 'vision' of the idea of Perry returning to Journey now. He quit the band mid-concert and stormed off stage. I know that'd almost certainly never be the case, but either way, I don't think that connection that used to be there between him and Neal is there anymore.

By all means, we all have our vocal preferences and that's great, you prefer Pineda's and I prefer Perry's (and Martin's and Soto's). 8) Three very different tones, but all having the R&B influenced vocal delivery that is a must for me.

I love Soto's voice, as well as Augeri's. And I've said it before: I deeply respect and admire Perry's voice. He was the original "Voice" of the band. But for my personal ears, Arnel's tone is the one that rings best for me.

And saying that, we can speculate all ya want, but nobody really has any idea of what Perry sounds like vocally TODAY.

True. And honestly, this would be a case where I'd LOVE to be wrong. But I'm looking at the matter realistically and assume his voice is pretty much gone by now.

Soul would never leave Perry's singing, even if he was only capable of whispering the song.

That wasn't exactly what I meant. I mean that... chemistry of sorts he, Neal and Jonathan used to have. I used to call that the 'soul' of the band when I first started to listen to the band back in 2007/2008 prior to Revelation being released.

Yeah, I saw that post to you Virgil on Journey's website. You weren't attacking Perry, merely stating a preference and there really exists no justification for what he posted and where he posted it.
You'll get used to this sort of behavior though.

The irony here being that the ones who usually suggest these sorts of things are the ones who are the most easily offended.
