melodic rock bands not "mainstream"

Postby iceberg » Sat May 21, 2011 7:29 am

hey all - i've put my radio show on hiatus for awhile cause... well ... i needed a break. : ) gonna bring it back next month sometime but much more melodic rock focused. i've found bands like blanc faces and bonrud through here and about and wanted to get some input on bands like these that *should* be heard but for whatever reason are not.

(cough FM sucks cough)

also who's still kickin it? mr big, love the song "i get the feeling" and i doubt many have heard it. sad. but what other melodic bands from yesterday are still pushing it today?

anyone interested in a joey c jones interview?

anyway - i've been keeping my eye out for these bands but wanted to ask the hardcore fans - what lesser known band would you push?

Very cool to know this band made it all the way to Canada. Not sure if it was on here, but I remember reading a post by some kid saying check out my dad's old band and it was these guys. Make you feel old doesn't it?

I am old :) . Actually I only knew a couple of their songs years ago, but quite recently rediscovered them and managed to find both CD's on MusicStack.

Agreed, my absolute favorite after Undertow. I Get The Feeling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQNZEg9n7_s

The whole album kicks ass, but I`m most amazed at how great the new ones sound LIVE!

I hope melodic rock never becomes mainstream. Usually when good music goes mainstream greedy record companies get their slimy hands on it and fuck it up.

well i think the 80s were full of melodic rock and it's already come an gone in as much as what changes it could go through. whatever is going to change about melodic rock i believe already has so now it's usually a comfortable familiar sound to us older people.

who'd have figured when i was first watching karate kid i'd call myself old one day...

pulling what i can from itunes off these suggestions and trying to broaden my mix. my online time is seriously limited until after june but i'll keep checeking back in when i can. thanks for all the suggestions!

i know he was working on some new stuff and sent me a couple (bonrud) but my own feedback was it wasn't what i expected from him and almost angry, but it's what the producer was after. i'll see if i still have those and if he doesn't mind if i let others hear and provide feedback.

The new album is a 10 just song after song of great melodic rock , i dont know how Marcie is able to sound like a man in her singing voice because her speaking voice is 100 % woman...pretty amazing

I don't know that the speaking voice changed much (there is an interview on youtube done around the time of the Live at the Gods '93 performance), but she never had vocal surgery, so the only thing that would change is the effect of age. Can't imagine anybody wanting to ruin a singing voice that good, so it's not really surprising.

Less than thrilled with the new album, but I've never thought ANY of the Unruly Child albums were all that good and all were very patchy, so maybe I just don't get them.
