And Perry. Revelation's success and the reaction from the the Loon faction is incontrovertible proof that you have those who are "too emotionally invested" (i.e. deranged) on both sides.

Oh, I whole heartedly agree. The difference being there was only one forum back then so everyone had to take their medicine together.

Bring em back together and let the most active singer win. Hell, how active is the SP forum anyway? It might add 10 threads a month to this forum.
Nah, we really need to stop battling each other. Its not a war. I think everyone here loves Steve Perry for what he contributed, which was most of
the bands best years. Expectations on both sides of the fence are too high at this point. Arnel is never gonna bring this band back to it's glory days
and neither is Steve. I'm a guy willing to just let it all go, let bygones be bygones and move forward. I'm glad there is still a Journey and I feel that
Arnel represents the band as well as anyone could at this point.

Steve doesn't have the voice to bring Journey back to the glory days, he would be good for one big concert but that's about it.

Most sane people know this, so why do we argue about it? I know you're not, but still....why?

Really what I loved was hearing new Cain and Schon music. I'm hung up on the vocals, and it's not Arnel's fault. He gave it a valiant and admirable effort, but he's just no Perry.

Go back and listen to "Separate Ways", "Ask The Lonely", "Stone In Love", and pretty much any of the songs with the stacked, layered vocals. Perry had a technique to stacking those vocals effortlessly and you don't hear anything even similar to that in the post-Perry songs (minus "Remember Me"). It's the missing ingredient to this band, and you'd think the band would try to create those huge, endless layers of vocals that used to be such a big part of their amazing sound... but they don't. They layer a few vocals here and there, but it's just not the same. Hell, several times in Eclipse, the backing vocals don't even end at the same time as the lead vocal, and it sounds sloppy as hell! :?

Of course Perry sounds nothing like he used to anymore, but I'd take another Perry album with the band over 10 more Arnel albums. Just saying. :(

Good post. I haven't been here for a while, but I couldn't agree more with what you said.

If Perry didn't have the magic, Journey would have just been another obscure forgotten 70's band with killer musicians but no frontman. They should all thank Steve Perry every morning when they wake up for every dime the band makes today. It's all because of his vocals and his passion. Everyone else in the band was simply a support person... just like Elvis' band members were.

The ONLY reason Steve Perry still comes out of his shell occasionally is so he is not forgotten. It's a power trip for him. There is NO WAY Steve Perry could sing Eclipse songs, nor many other Journey songs at this point. It's not a knock on him, but Arnel is in his 40's, and Perry is now getting long in the tooth.

Some day folks will realize Steve Perry is a weird dude, and just doesn't want to be forgotten, so occasionally he will pop up and answer a few questions, and then go back into hiding except for baseball season. If he wanted to sing, he would sing. I don't even see that it matters anymore why he don't sing. He simply isn't going to. He was weird when he was in the band, and some things never change.

I admire the fact that Schon, Cain, and Valory are still out there trying. Their era of music is the only 'music' left. Kudos to them. I certainly don't consider them saints, and probably wouldn't even want to hang out with them, but I love their music.

Wrong. There is still some great 'music' out there....you just can't be lazy, sitting on yo ass, hoping it will find you by osmosis. Again, i don't know why people keep putting Journey on this epic pedestal. Sure they were great....and others are too. Find them, like I did.

If your wish for Perry in Journey came true, we'd all have to find something else to do, and listen to like the 90s, and Andrew would have to put the Styx forum on the top billing again. I think Journey needs Perry like the Titanic needs another hole.

No, I have....they just don't have freaky fan pray at the alter sites like this one.... You're from Norway, you should know all the european groups that are trying to keep the genre alive. Crazy Lixx, Reckless Love, H.E.A.T., Brother Firetribe, Crashdiet....etc....granted, they'll never be Journey...but they are an apt subsitute.

The current Journey lineup is like:

Aerosmith without Steven Tyler

The Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger

The Elvis Band without Elvis

I didn't realize that Journey was the Steve Perry band.
Here's the reality of the situation as I see it, the idea that Steve Perry is the one and only factor in Journey's success or legacy is patently false.
Simple math. If Journey was merely a glorified backing band, why isn't Street Talk as popular or as successful as Escape? Why is it that people yearn for a reunion with Journey instead of mere solo efforts from Perry?
If Perry were really some sort of extraspecial vocalist the likes of which was never seen before and never will be again, why was he out of a job until Herbie Herbert graciously offered him the spot in Journey?

History reflects something entirely different than what you're propagating here. You know who Journey and Perry himself really ought to thank for their money? Herbie.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

That's why he was a chicken farmer before Journey. That's how great he was...had all kinds of people knocking down his door.

So Parfait searched and searched. He wanted to marry a virgin. Girl after girl, until he finally found
the perfect virgin. On the first night of their honey moon, as he prepared to deflower her, he took
out his love member and carefully explained to her that this was a "cock" and how he intended to use
it. No, it's a Pee-Pee, she exclaimed! He said, no, it's a cock, my darling. It is a Pee-Pee. A cock is
14 inches long and it's black! :D

I only live in Norway. I'm from the States and don't know any of those bands. :P

They have a lot of Norwegians there. And Norwegian food. They just call it food though.

Just because you live in northern Europe doesn't mean you're not Euro trash.

Ok, but my birth certificate and my passport still say yank. 8)

I bet it gets cold as a bitch there in the winter. I couldn't take it.

If I'm a cocksucking faggot and I can kick your ass, what does that make you Parfait?

That makes you a cocksucking faggot that can kick my ass. Impressed that you managed to translate it though.

I wasn't trying to impress you, I just needed to see what your veiled insult said. I know most are, but are all French people pussies?

You know most are? Take it easy there, Christina Columbus. Call us French pussies as much as you want, but the fact remains that while you guys are searching through your fanny pack for a dictionary, we're too busy being passionate, smoking cigarettes and fingerfucking your wives. :)

Don't pat yourself on the back for being too smart, you didn't even answer my first question. My wife can't stand French people either, but give it hell, you'll probably wind up getting your ass kicked by her too. Is your definition of being passionate pissing on a chick?

Easily the funniest quote I've ever read on this forum. Almost all 80's acts now carry the stigma of being gulity pleasures and Journey is no exception. They were barely cool even in their heyday.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Open Arms, Faithfully.... not cheese?

I'm no Arnel stalwart and no Perry revivalist. Just a younger fan looking for good music to sink my teeth into. Eclipse delivered that to some degree, at least way more so than Revelation did. I still look forward to listening to it for now.

You're talking as if I'm part of some kind of bigger agenda just because I don't like the new album. Very strange. I'm offering my views on it, and you obviously have a problem accepting them. But this is a discussion forum, where I thought one was supposed to discuss things? "Move on" can be applied to a lot of views, but then there wouldn't be a lot of discussion, would there?

You listened to four tracks off the album and condemned one for being too cheesy, while in the same breath praising a past album that featured keytar solos and Randy Jackson in polka dots. Your motives are questionable and your posts are shit.

lol... this is hilarious

Actually, this is the correct answer. Journey doesn't need Perry.
They could not have made this album with Perry.[/quote

You're right. They don't need Perry to create an album that does sell and does not have any songs that get on the radio. In fact, they don't need Arnel for that either...they could have done that with JSS or Auger, or even Flieschman.

Sales in this case have nothing to do with whether this album is good or not. Piss poor promotion is the answer to the lagging sales.
We all know that even absolute shit can turn in great sales numbers when properly promoted.

Then it makes absolutely no difference who is singing the songs.

And, why were you not bitching about lack of promotion three months ago when it would have mattered? It's like you are telling the Capt. of the Titanic that he should watch out for icebergs a week after the ship sank. It seems to me that you, and others, are just reaching for excuses and this is just the most obvious. I was astounded that people were predicting 100,000 in sales, topping the sales of Revelation...SJ basically promising this forum the world. The when people like me said you should be happy if it sold 50,000, we were met with posts saying some people were going to b e surprised...

Well, some people were surprised, but it wasn't me.
