Best since Frontiers for me

Postby Gin and Tonic Sky » Thu Jun 02, 2011 4:57 am

Ok I've been through Eclipse five times now. I don't like all of it, and I don't know if it a 100% album in my book, (and I still think Whitesnake's Forevermore album is album of the year) but there's some monster rock on this album. Massively. To my ear some easily their best album since Frontiers.

It's definitely decent. It doesn't trump Arrival or TBF for me though. In fact, I'm not even sure it beats RoR. RoR's classics crush Eclipse's best tunes for sure. It'd be a close battle for me.

Forevermore kicks ALL KINDS of arse. It will be a tall task to usurp that as AOTY.

Be Good To Yourself, for better or worse is one of Journey's highest charting songs. The guitar intro sells it to a lot of people, it's just epic.

BGTYS, IBAWY, Suzanne, and GCHI from RoR stand for me as some of the band's strongest songs in any era. Just great stuff even if the latter two are especially dated-sounding.

Eclipse, musically, steamrolls over ROR. Vocally, ROR always gets the nod.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Sorry virtually impossible. TBF is better than Frontiers.

Agreed, but Frontiers is second or third for me.

Forevermore kicks ALL KINDS of arse. It will be a tall task to usurp that as AOTY.

Bias aside, Deb....Forevermore just slays Mr. Big....sorry. Whitesnake isn't my favorite band - and that makes me more credible.

No it doesn't. I like Whitesnake too and Forevermore is a great album too! But I'm in total agreement with Drewsky on his reviews of these 2 albums. What If.... 100%, Forevermore 96%.

As excited as I was for the return of that era of Journey, TBF was a boring let down for me.
I think Perry's voice and the production was spectacular. But aside from WYLAW, nothing from
That album grabbed me. I can't even listen to it

My face order, until last week, has been Escape, Frontiers, Arrival...
Eclipse may surpass Arrival real soon :-)

Whether you like Whitesnake or not isn't the issue. Mr. Big being your favorite band IS. And a band that hasn't been around making albums for 10 years....of course the long layoff is going to slant your opinion of that CD....Mr. Big is the answer to every question that could ever be posed to you....your opinion isn't subject to falsification, therefore is it biased....NEXT!

Not true at all, sure I may say Mr Big (or one of my other faves) to 9 out of 10 questions posed. But it doesn't mean I like everything they've done (album). The two that come to mind are EM's - Destroy All Monsters (didn't do a thing for me, IMO doesn't even come close to I'm Goin' Sane and especially Somewhere In The Middle)......same with JSS's - Redlist. As far as MB goes, save for a few songs........same goes for the Get It Over It album. So I'm not one of those fans that say everything they do is golden.
