Whatever Kool-Aid you're drinking I need some. Yes this is the best album they've released since Arrival, but that's not saying much. The only album this is better from Perry's era is ROR. The album is filler with 3 solid tracks.

Also forgot to mention that one of those tracks (City Of Hope) sounds like a U2 riff rip off mixed with "Praise" from Soul SirkUS. When they jam toward the end of the song and Neal is ripping it up listen to the other riff going on then go back and listen to "Praise"

Unless you're idea of a kick-ass Journey record is more record company-mandated wedding ballads, I'm not sure how any fan wouldn't be happy with this. Anytime Neal puts his mind toward something (Hardline, SoulSirkus) the results are usually pretty sweet. Sorry you don't dig it. And "Arrival" was pretty sweet, so I don't view that as faint praise at all.

Not too bad considering that the only promotion for Eclipse came from a few of us here on the site I've talked to a number of pretty passionate Journey fans at work, etc. and none of them had any idea that this was coming out.

Agreed. This album had about as much promotion as Generations. I'm impressed it debuted in the Top 30.

The catchy songs you mentioned span the course of six separate albums and three different lineups. If you're looking for a new album full of nothing but catchy tunes, buy the greatest hits. Journey has never released an album that was wall-to-wall toetappers. Eclipse has some commercial stuff, and some stuff less so. That's the way it's almost always been.

Or I can just listen to Escape. For a band that's considered a soft rock band, Escape rocked with the exception of 3 songs and those 3 songs were great ballady type songs. Frontiers is another album that rocked for the most part. My point it was possible for them to write good rock songs without having to cheese it up by shoving ballad after ballad down our throats. These songs on this album are weak lyrically and the final product really shows.

This 'new' Journey has been working that turf for over half a decade, this album was actually written for that market. If the Brits didn't like it, then Journey would really be done making new music.

It's the equivalent of Mr. Big hitting #6 in Japan, a market even bigger than Britain. It's cool and all that but it still ain't the U.S.

They'd be radio friendly if they weren't filler tracks. IMO the only songs on the album that are worthy of a release are City of Hope, Chain Of Love, and Tantra. Edge of the Moment, Resonate, and To Whom It May Concern are alright songs, but nothing special. The rest of the album is filler.

Like Escape, there is no filler on this album. It's a lean and mean 12 tracks - only Neal's instrumental is a waste of time. City of Hope is pretty lame, but otherwise I've got no complaints.

Nothing to be ashamed of. Given that the cd wasn't coupled with DSB or any gimmmicky covers, this is thier best debut in forever.

Journey's appearance on BBC Morning and NBC's Today Show (Summer Concert Series) will certainly help boost sales. We'll see just how much.

I think Eclipse would have sold more through Best Buy, as it could have gotten more promotion from a just poster stationed at the door as BB did with Chickenfoot. Walmart gives it no special consideration beyond that given to their non Walmart exlusive new releases. Only customers looking specifically for cds are going to notice it. However, Journey probably wouldn't have gotten as many dollars per cd with Best Busy as with Walmart, assuming it approaches the amount per copy for Revelation.

I have never seen any evidence that tours have helped sell Journey CD's, from Arrival on. It just doesn't happen as people think. The sales will continue to drop from here...unles radio picks up a song.

That depends on Wal-Mart and Journey's expectations. If they were stocking 50 CD's per store and debuting at 100,000, then yes, Journey should be very embaressed.

The BBC appearance won't do shit. They are not playing live, its just a five minute interview at best, and they are probably gonna be on at around 7am when people have just woken up and don't really give a shit about the TV.
Maybe if they were appearing on the other channel on the 'This Morning' show later in the morning and actually playing live then they would have more of a chance. As it is i can't see it helping the band.
