Favorite vocal harmonies...

Postby PianoMan1986 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 12:39 pm

Just something I'm curious to see what people come up with as some of their favorite vocal harmonies from songs (studio layered, "organic", live, whatever your preference). (no particular genre) -- please attach links for everyone to hear if possible.

 And before anybody goes there, it's not just me, they're known for being a band with great vocal harmonies, commented on regularly.

Any particular genre? In general, harmony-wise, I don't think it gets better than the Everly Brothers and The Beach Boys. Boyz II Men do a great job, but sometimes they just have tooooo many runs.

Nope, no particular genre, just whatever appeals to you as far as harmonies go -- nothing wrong with being predictable either

I don't know folks, I have never heard a better live band than when I heard Journey's crystal clear, strong and piercing vocals in 2006. It just doesn't get better than that!

Can't find a link to post it, but "My Love, My Friend" at the end of the Soul Sirkus album is great. Yeah it's all JSS, but still in layers and just sounds awesome.

I think when you're truly awarding the "best" vocal harmonies, you have to give it to groups who did it organically. In other words, yeah, those 80 layers of SP on the classic Journey tunes SOUND killer (as do other bands from MR), but can you really commend them as great harmonies? In my view, no.

So, vocal bands like CSN(Y), Eagles, Doobie Bros, Little River Band, Beach Boys, America etc take the prize for me.

A lot of those of those Country Rock groups had it down pat. Poco, Pure Prairie League, Firefall.

I love America's harmonies. Live back when, I guess 70s performing two songs below: I also love how they trade on lead vocals on different songs
