I still miss Steve! :( :( . Arnel is fantastic but I still miss my Steve. His voice is so soothing to me. I know now probably never hear it again but still hard not to wish. :( :(

The album would not have been possible with Steve.
Forget about the singing. He wouldn't have shown up for the party.

100% correct, his voice is toast. He'll say he enjoys his privacy but he's full of crap, he wouldn't have stayed quiet for this long if he could still sing.

People can be rehabilitated, when they choose to be. The world is full of people who "come back" WHEN they are ready. I understand isolation
and reclusiveness and it progresses and feeds upon itself. I blanked out for 7 years of my life. One day, it was just as simple as deciding to go
out boating with a friend and at sunset I realized that minute that the day had been a life changing experience.

He needs to get out more. :D

You know, I hear this all of the time, but please give me 100% proof that his voice is toast. I don't know of any of us on any of these boards, outside of Lora or Cyndy, that has heard the man sing in recent years. I'm willing to agree with you completely if you can give me proof that the man can't sing now. And, no You Tube videos of the World Series!

Perry has sung very little, if at all, in the last 13 years. He may still have a voice but there is no way in hell he can pull off one of the most demanding catalogs in music after that kind of a layoff. They would have to tune everything so far down to the point it would sound like shit.

I would still buy a cd by Perry, no matter what range he was singing in. He is the voice after all. AP won me over with this cd. I ws not impressed on the last one. Would have been great to have Perry come out with something, in or out of Journey. But I expect a new Survivor cd before Perry does anything. And Survivor will be 2019.

Never fear my dear sweet loons. With the world ending in December we may see the old boy yet. Of course knowing Steve it will be on the last last day at 10 minutes til the end. He will have just sung the first few bars of YOU BETTER Wait...... live via twitter FEED. Don't know if this is possible. I don't know how to twitter, but just go with it!!! When he sees the anti beast rise up out of the pumpkin patch. Steve's last words to us loons will be "Anyway. What was I saying.... WHOA.. Missing You.... Oh crap."

Two things you can count on. The day before the supposed Armageddon, you won't be able to find a seat in a church. The day after, you won't be able to find a seat in a bar.

But again, how do you know what Perry has done the last 13 years? In public, yes he's done nothing. However, that doesn't mean he doesn't work his voice out, musically on a daily basis. It could possibly mean he could handle the catalog now. Maybe he's had surgery on his chords, who knows? I would just like to hear Perry on stage doing the Journey catalog so we could once and for all have factual data to back up what people say on the boards.

Anyone who says that they know for certain the quality of Perry's voice is likely talking out their ass.
That said, we can use basic common sense and logical deduction to conclude that it's much more likely that the man's voice has only went downhill even further in terms of technical aptitude. The idea that he can reach the old notes, much less hold them, is absolutely baseless.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

But, that's assuming the man doesn't sing on a regular basis. Having a strong voice, much like a strong body, requires exercise. If Perry truly hasn't been doing any singing at all, then it's probably logical to assume he couldn't hack it on stage over loud instruments. Again, I'd just love to actually hear something from the guy so we can put these things to rest.

I listen to Perry in TBF, 'I Stand Alone' and his handful of contributions to various artists in times since. I hear the rasp and loss of upper register that's as subtle as Elton John's '70s attire. Consequently, I am forced to conclude that the great Steve Perry is not invulnerable to the wear and tear of years of relentless touring, decades of inactivity, and the demands of age. This, naturally, doesn't mean he's a lackluster singer but it does indicate that the man's range is nothing compared to what it used to be.
