Useless information but I will share it anyway.

Last year at this time, Glee's Journey to Regionals EP (containing the cast's covers of Faithfully, DSB and AWYWI) came in at No. 1 on Billboard with 154,000 copes sold.

Next week, Adele will be back at #1 on the album chart as Gaga fever dissipates.

If that's the case... then where does that leave the band for their next (cough, cough) record..

Now we are seeing Eclipse, an album JC the Balladeer himself said was more Neal than him.. that he said he "barely played on"... not even likely to "eclipse" Arrival.... and JC has to tour with this band for 2 more years doing a DD retread set where the only thing new they play is off an album that he likely doesn't even like?

I've said it before... I still think Cain is gonna bail...
  1. he doesn't need the money... doesn't have Schons monthly alimony bills for force him to keep touring..
  2. he lives in Nashville.. his life is there
  3. he has a brand new studio there... has talked openly about it going commercial
  4. has talked openly about wanting to produce
  5. his daughter's career is just starting in Nashville

He has more upside in Nashville than on the road..

Eclipse just made "Journey the songwriters" - meaning JC - irrelevant.. that songwriting "magic" only existed with the triumvirate of JC/SP/NS, even JC said so in a recent interview... and these NS heavy songs, speak for themselves.. sure some fans like them.. but its obvious most fans don't.

Its the NS show now... and all the other players are now just sidemen...

JC can simply hire his own replacement and go back home..

Helluva post, well thought out. Doesn't take a genius to see this forthcoming, which is why I maintain this is their last tour, ever. Kind of ridiculous to have a Farewell Tou without Steve Perry in the band, so I can't see them trying that. If Cain goes, I can't see them carrying on. And Valory is pushing 90, so he needs to get out too. I get the feeling Pineda doesn't like this harder music, otherwise I would say Pineda, Deen and Schon could forge on or start a new band, but why would Neal take away the Journey name, when THAT is what sells tickets, not the new music.

yup.. the only one who has to "keep" touring to pay the bills is NS.. AP made a shrewd move by staying in the PI... way lower cost of living for him there.. and its his home..

Slucero, the alimony payments can't go on forever, can they?

On the Cain departure thought. It just came to me. They could get Bruce ....Hornsby to join. Seriously, as good as a pianist/keys player on the planet, and a much better singing voice than Cain. You guys do know JC lipped Every Generation on that 2006 tour. Embarrassingly horrid 'vocalist.'

I'm sure they can't... but what is it 5 wives?

I can't imagine management wanting to pay for a "name" player.. they'd do a youtube and get a kid to do it... add some youth to the band in the process... and FOREVER cement the notion that "Perry is Journey"

That's why I don't call it Journey anymore. It's called Neil's band.

Exactly. Most fans want the "Journey" sound with trio of JC/SP/NS and thats where the true magic was. Just take a look at the charts and sales.

I'm sure Jon and Neal are very well off but man, they have burned through some serious dough with their solo projects.

Has anything that Neal's done without colloborating with someone ever really sold? I'll just skip right over asking that about Cain. Ten solo albums and very few people here could probably name more than one of them.

Still, these guys have a lot of licensing money coming in and Neal has that company he partnered with Herbie on.

You'd think. I've actually seen Cain's house (helped a cousin move out of Brentwood and he showed me). It was huge, though obviously not palatial. The man's gotta be a millionaire.

Revelation was #1 on the independent chart, not that it's relevant. It's for artists wih no major label. Being at #7 means Journey is a scrub amongst the scrubs.

Just for the record, looking back to week two of Revelation's release, the album dropped one spot on Billboard from #5 to #6, while moving an additional 89,000 packages for a two week total of 193,000 sold.

The lyrics are pure Cain, and in a recent interview, he was defending Neal's decision to rock out. I really don't see him going anywhere.

Umm why? Arrival, which had mild promotion (compared to none for Eclipse), debuted at #56 or something. A devastating drop-off after TBF. Given their post-Perry track record, Eclipse's sales are pretty good

5 more years is my prediction, then we can get back to arguing about what we once had...all singers and all players included.

I have a feeling that once Journey is done a new band will be built around Neal, Arnel and Deen. Maybe Bad English part deux? Retire Night Ranger
and pull in Jack Blades, and maybe Rolie comes into this somehow? There could be a good band right there.

Like Soul Sirkus, it would flop. Journey is the brand name that sells tickets. Outside of guitar geeks and Journey fans, very few people appreciate Neal Schon.
