Sound/mix problems still an issue?

When I saw Journey a couple of years ago in NC, they were touring with Night Ranger. Night Ranger sounded amazing! Everything was mixed just right and the concert was enjoyable. When Journey got on stage, the mix was all screwed up apparently. The vocals were too quiet, too much reverb, too much echo....first concert I had ever gotten up and left early from.

Incidentally, I saw Journey at the same venue ten years earlier, and they sounded amazing. So, I know it can't be the venue.

ditto! I was there and it sounded horrible! I was in front row in front of schon! Saw them 2 years prior at verizon wireless in charlotte front row and was incredible. Hope they fix this mess before charlotte this year!

Not sure the front row is a very good place from which to judge how the sound is mixed. The mixed sound is going right over your head.

Brings up an interesting point. Where in an arena IS the best place to HEAR the concert? I assume each arena is different to some degree. Location does make a big difference.

. Yes I understand your point but I sat in front row in cola sc when jss was with them and that was the loudest, best sounding concert I have ever attended! Oh and did I mention the crowd was digging jss? Nothing against arnel. I like him too but this crowd was truly on their feet the whole time!

Well the show from two years ago had the sound man that was replaced initially [or Kevin E] . I have no idea who is mixing anymore but this sort of sound stuff is troublesome.

Whatever happened to Elson? Sleazy fucker to be sure, but IMO, he was a good sound guy. Not being sarcastic regarding Tapegate (which he was actually clever as fuck....he turned a shitty singer into a Perry clone- and can you imagine the difficulty of feeding in the tape at the right time?) Anyway, get him back. I also wonder if he too had a falling out with the band, and if so, what's stopping him from telling the Tapegate story to a major rag? ---unless he doesn't want to be associated with the scam. He and I got into it during the show at Pompano Beach...THAT was interesting to say the least.

Dean, I have wondered that too. Maybe he feels like it isn't worth it, and this many years later most people won't care about it, and the only people it will hurt in the long run is him and Augeri... The band will go on and do what they do with little or no impact.

Is Journey traveling lighter this year? It seems like they have less equipment with them.

Maybe Azoff told em he's not paying to pack all that extra gear this year and to strip it down.
