Somewhere There's Hope....Better live than Studio?

Postby TRAGChick » Sat May 28, 2011 9:10 am

To me,.....yes.

This Song is SO MUCH BETTER LIVE!
I saw his FTLOSM tour, and was floored by Performances like this.
Lincoln's phrasing and tone give me chills.

Listen to what Steve does from 7:30 to the end...

I overlooked it on FTLOSM, then saw it live in first row in MPLS.
WOW, was one of the best songs i heard that night. Now a favorite,
Dixie highway rocked as well.

Would have been nice if by some chance there was a great quality video transferred to DVD *cough cough* that one could add to his collection!

My favorite song off that album period. I have seen that performance many times and he slays it. They all do. I dont care if he cant shatter glass with his voice anymore because he will always be able to shatter hearts with it. Thats a fact.

No one sings with that kind of emotion anymore. No one ! I am speaking of this video. Steve does bleed a little when he sings like Jon said. That alone I bet can be a heavy thing to deal with and very draining at times I bet.

The live version of STAND UP is also better than the studio track. Less heartfelt than the studio track but the song rocks with the faster live tempo.

Try this version of it from Toronto... the audio quality is better. http://youtu.be/L6PgIo27tKw I saw this tour in Seattle and was blown away when he did this live. I was just listening to the live show from Atlanta and checked to see if they had that one on you tube, but found that one instead.

This is just plain fucking BORING! Over-compensating for a busted up voice, and not enough flight to sing for Journey. Probably best that he stuck to high school gyms and small auditoriums. The depth in his voice is missing sooo much resonance. Hollow. He sounds hurt.

You're such a broken record.

If you can't get the magic and the technical merit of that vocal performance, I feel sorry for you. Was his upper register as uber-high as it was in 1978? No. But it's so much more powerful and soulful at this stage that MANY prefer it. Still huge range, perfectly on key with vocal acrobatics all over the place. I'd love to hear Arnel try and mimic this performance. Wouldn't have a chance in hell of pulling this off. But then again, SP didn't have to have Smitty bail him out by singing the most vocally demanding tunes in the set list either.

Depth missing resonance? You have no clue what you're talking about. But I know that you love to come to the Perry forum and stir shit, so I understand.

At least he didn't play at local fairs. How soon you forget.

This is a comment every bit as asinine as people spouting off conclusively about the current state of Perry's voice. Perry detuned during the FtLOSM tour and his voice was raspy as hell; was it bad? No, not really. But given the fact Arnel can and has toured w/ Journey in the original key, then detuned, and now back in the original key lends credence to the idea that, range-wise, there's nothing Perry did during this era that Arnel couldn't replicate.

He hasn't played anywhere in a long time. Wonder why? How soon you forget. Will you remember anytime soon? I doubt it, but............ we'll see. :P

You haven't heard me repeating things over and over anymore lately, have you? I got burned once from misinformation and learned from it. These are all just opinions. You haven't heard me say anything about the current condition about his voice lately. I have no idea. I take what Andrew said to be as much fact as anybody would know.

I didn't say or mean that Arnel couldn't hit the notes SP hit on this song range-wise, it's everything else about the performance that he doesn't have, and he's a great singer. The vocal tricks and runs and ad-libbing, I've just never heard Arnel do. I really like Arnel. He's not Perry in his prime, but no one is.

Anybody who sings with Journey for any period of time is gonna eventually be tuning down a half or whole step. It's just a matter of physical science.

I haven't forgotten anything about anything. I'm just much more laid back about Journey and music in general. I don't care as much for the current configuration, but they're still miles better than any of the new schlok that's being played today.
