The Bottle incident

Postby SF-Dano » Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:21 am

Most have seen this from the Frontiers and Beyond video, but if not, a little piece of Journey history. Have to say, cool of Perry speaking up for Neal and cool of Neal taking it all in stride.

I posted a hilarious comic of this incident, but no one looked. :(
Definitely a cool video: Perry acting like a good friend, Schon acting like an utter badass.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

I was there at the Meadowlands (Brendan Byrne Arena at the time?). First time ever had floor seats. In addition to being concerned for Neal, I was thinking, "You gotta be kidding me. First time I have decent seats and they are going to end the concert within the first few minutes." -- can't remember how many songs in. Perry was pissed. When Neal came back out from backstage, and you could see him bleeding on the big screen, the place went nuts for him. And I loved "No More Lies," so it was perfect "timing" for Neal to take center stage.

Postby yandtguy » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:27 am

Here's a link to the audio of a show where Perry got hit in the head with something in Greensboro, NC.

Perry being hit

Postby youkeepmewaiting » Sun Jun 26, 2011 6:06 am

I recall an story about a radio interview with Perry where a guy called up and said it was him he threw the thing but it was an accident. Something about him having an argument with his girlfriend maybe and his watch flew off his arm and hit Perry. The guy said that he had felt guilty for years for making Perry think he meant him harm

I can't remember it properly but I'm sure it was something like that

I hadn't heard that before. Good for Perry, I don't blame him for going off. It's bad enough when some moronic heckler disrupts a show in their immature need for attention when no one paid to see or wants to see them make a fool of themselves and disrupt the performance, but even worse is someone that throws something at a performer. What a cowardly thing to do.

As I say that may not be the reason it hit him. it was years ago when I read about it. But apperently Perry was pretty moved by the guy calling up and apologising all those years later
