I think it's their strongest effort in years. And I'm no band apologist.

I'd take Eclipse over Arrival. The Blades stuff was killer. The rest, not so much.

I'd take "Arrival" just slightly over "Eclipse" and "Revelation" over both of them.

Despite having tons of stock, Eclipse is averaging around two sales a week per store. When does this thing go down to $4.99?

A little too much of a Greatest Hits vibe for me, but a great album nonetheless. Like Eclipse, no filler!

This is what you call opinion. I think the CD was a well done effort and a success for me. I like the album since it's something fresh from the guys. Shows me they still care about music.

Certainly you're entitled to your opinion.....however, album sales to date of this abortion do not support that your opinion is shared by many....Or even few....

When an album is this much of a sales failure, 'elephant dung' is a term record co executives use to avoid saying what they really think.....hard to argue with hundreds of thousands of unsold copies rotting on walmart shelves.....

Please come back to reality, dude. This is 2011, not 1981. I know you hate the cd, but no post-Perry album has been a retail success. "Arrival" flopped and it's been all downhill ever since. Doesn't matter if it's "Remember Me" or "Higher Place" or "Place in Your Heart" - the public at large ain't buyin what this lineup is sellin.

Journey might keep going but I think it won't be on Wal-Mart's dime next time. I don't know who's to blame but there are a lot of Eclipse packages sitting on Wal-Mart's shelves. The album got more space than Revelation even did. Wal-Mart's going to have to eat it. And (COINCIDENTALLY), the head music guy who gave Journey the nod just happens to be bailing from the company this coming August.

Oh, a word on the packaging. I finally stopped by the Wal-Mart in Chino Hills and got to look at Journey's offering first hand. Besides the coloring in the cover not standing out that much (Luckily, there were dozens of them staring at me from the racks), I have to say I've received better cases from free trial CDs in the mail. The cardboard slipsleeve is like picking up a promo of something, it doesn't look like an official product at all. I could see people easily skipping over this purchase just on visual appearances alone.

The Manila DVD was packaged much better than this at the same price point. There really is no excuse for this shoddy presentation of the product.

Well, my opinion states that this is the best post perry cd yet.

1. Eclipse
2. Revelation
3. Arrival

4. Generations

If people (and a fair few of Journey fans are) are enjoying the album then why should they hang up their boots?

This is a terrific album. Glad to see the band finally take the time to do one right.

As for album sales, I wonder if perhaps the folks here are a lot more concerned about sales than they are? They have made it pretty clear they aren't after radio singles. They sound to me like they are a group of guys still loving what they do after 30 plus years, and still doing it. Kudos to them.

I don't care if I was the only person who bought Eclipse. I still think it's a good CD and a great effort by the band regardless how many units sell. It's not the 1980's anymore, I'm well aware of that (maybe everyone else should too) so I don't expect Journey to reach GaGa type levels. Point is, is that their still producing some kickass music and deserve their credit. Next time, they need to market and advertise an up-coming release, something they didn't do this time around since it's obvious why the album bombed. Seems like the guys knew it also when their target were for more overseas and comment on how " It seems like people here in the states care-less about new music while people in other area's give it a chance...." type thing.

So um, are you agreeing with me or not? lol...Don't look now, but you're sorta making my argument for me.

I agree with you...it's not 1981. Was I expecting a multi-platinum album? Certainly not. I wasn't one of the fanboi's involved in the 'platinum watch' conducted here back during revelation. Those voices have all but silenced now, once the reality of what kind of record eclipse is.

I'm glad some people here have enjoyed the album....I personally question the taste of those that like it....but you can lump together all of the post perry works of this band and eclipse currently rests right next to Dead 13, as the worst o the bunch.

I also like She's a Mystery right on up until it turns into a shitty Led Zeppelin song.

The rest of the record is dog piss....a collection of really bad songs, with crappy structure, overindulgent (yet crappy) soloing, and piss poor lyrics.

While TNC can accurately point out that this band has been sputtering around the drain since 96, the fact of the matter is that the songs are far worse on Eclipse. They aren't there. There are shining moments on every other Journey record.....I really can't identify any shining moments on this record. The above 3.5 mentioned songs are tolerable, with room for major improvement, had the band not forced out the one producer willing to work with them.

I know that this place (or Journey's website) are the last place I will find many that agree with me, because the vast majority of posters here are way too far gone from reality...

but eclipse is one well-wrapped CD of elephant dung soaked in dog piss. I don't buy many records any more, but this is the worst record I've wasted money on in the past several years....

I wish itunes had this fucking thing. I would have listened to the sound clips and saved 10 bucks.

iTunes and Amazon both have it but Journey's management didn't feel the need to tell anyone.

"She's A Mystery" is somewhat of a Led Zeppelin clone throughout the song, not just at the kick in. I still like it though, as it is a nod to Journey's 70's roots. It'll probably be one of the few songs from Eclipse that will stay in my Journey rotation in years to come.

You're right, it's zeppelin-esque throughout.....however, the beginning feels departure-ish....I like it. it doesnt sound zeppeliny to me. It sounds like it could have been right on evolution or departure.

When it turns into Black Dog, however....the song falls apart and becomes elephant dung. Sad.....the song starts out with such amazing promise....and turns to dust because Neal couldn't get passed his own fucking ego.

I am? I thought you liked "Arrival" - alot. Guess what? It bombed. When it comes to these dinosaur acts, there is no correlation between sales and quality.

The Zeppelinish kick-in MAKES the song. The acoustic part is just an extended musical cock-tease.
