Just curious...I mean, I think six of these songs are going to wind up on my Night Ranger iPod rotation. Exactly how many great songs does an album require for you to rate it above a 4? No Journey record this side of TBF (their best), Escape, and Frontiers, has yielded more than 3 (IMHO) great songs, and yet I would still rate ROR, Arrival, and Depature in the 89-90 range.

Hmmm...I give ONE point per song that I like....I only liked 4. Usually, me and another friend who likes this kind of music are satisfied if we get 3 songs for the iPod....New NR has a solid 4 songs. a couple of decent ones, and the rest......MEH.

Agreed, though Neverland didn't thrill me. I was more into Seven.

Which new ones did they play? Because other than the first six months of the Neverland tour in '97, they never again played NR classics like As Always I Remain, New York Time, and Walk in the Future.

My thoughts exactly!

Pull that piece of shit Secret of My Success, then add As Always I Remain and Time of Our Lives (my new all-time fave NR song), and you have a PERFECT set list.

Matt, how did Jack look? Did he have to sit down the whole time because of his pulled hammie?

No I was suprised, no sitting on a stool. He didn't move around quite as much as he usually does but stood up the whole time you wouldn't have any clue he had a bad leg if you hadn't heard the story

I just listened to "Time Of Our Lives" a few times since I've heard good things about it.
Initially, the song borders between iffy and suck. "What's.... the use.... in tryin'" etc., the tempo and phrasing are lackluster.
Then the harmonies kick in and the chorus is catchy as hell. Pretty decent song.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Time of Our Lives is a solid song for sure. I listened to the rest of it once so far. Nothing else really grabbed me as great other than that. Don't get me wrong, there were some other decent ones that I'll have to get more used to on repeat listens.

So far, of all the fucking 80s AOR bands still out there trucking, fucking Loverboy of all bands has turned in the strongest effort this side of Arrival and Styx's Cyclorama. And Loverboy's old shit mostly sucks! Go figure. Oh, Rick Springfield's last couple albums were solid too.

There's just something about the way new AOR from old bands is these days... it's like the elements are there - solid guitar, good riffs, great harmonies, upbeat songs... but for some reason so many of these new songs/albums just have a "sterile" or "plodding" feel to me. I can't explain it. It's like everything is about 5 beats too slow or something.

And I say this not coming from the same place that same of the jaded people on here do coming from seeing these bands in their heyday, but just as a music fan who wasn't even born when half of these bands were at their peak.

Yea, I hear you, and I also see it with a lot of the newer AOR bands also. Is it simply down to the fact that a lot of these bands are producing very cheaply these days, as opposed to the big days when there was money to spare and they went to producers who are talented at arranging songs? I've always thought AOR was one of the hardest types of music to write because it either clicks, or falls flat with very little in between. It seems to happen to everyone, and Journey is certainly not immune to it either.

Honestly, how good is this CD? How does it compare to Journey's Eclipse? Is it better? Which one is closer to a 100%?

How does it truly compare to the classic Night Ranger CDs of the 80's? One final question, where does the track, "Somewhere is California" rate on the album? I heart that one and wasn't too impressed. I'm thinking of buying it, but I want an independent and honest opinion. Thanks.

I like it more than Eclipse, it`s more for my taste than Journey`s latest.

It`s more like classic Night Ranger, Andrew`s rating is questionable but his review is more accurate than that of Eclipse (IMO), he doesn`t go overboard with his review. The track Growing Up In California is very good but maybe one of the weaker songs.

There's nothing on Eclipse that is memorable for me. "Somewhere in California" has been all I've been listening to. There are clips on youtube. Check this one out.

Eclipse was over for me after a day or two. Not sure the reasons really - just not all that appealing to me - even though I love Neal and his playing. The lyrics bug me - Jonathan annoys me. Not sure.

The Night Ranger album is still on rotation and I'm loving it. Really a great sounding record with hook after hook after hook. It's really well done.

That said - two totally different projects and I think it's up to the individual to figure out what mood they are in and thus what album will appeal more to them. But thankfully, you can listen to both.

I agree w/the above three (3) listed members ...but music is in the ear of the listener!!
SIC is 100% better than ...IMO!!

If Eclipse repaired your speakers ...SIC should lube your pistons!!

Is anyone familiar with who mixed and produced it? I want that guy for the next Journey album.
I hear great harmonies and the drums are nice and crisp. Musically the album is great. Sonically
it sounds excellent, but the the songs...I'm not still hooked.
