Definitely. I feel bad for slating it now as I assumed Journey had paid a decent some for the video. A lot of effort has definitely gone into it (I run a video production company myself) so they should be applauded

I've NEVER said "loon" in this forum. Not once (but wow, the definition sure fits you). I also don't think I make too many personal attacks on folks either-unless provoked. Look MG, sorry that my "fan boi-ness" of the current band is driving you nuts. From most of what I hear, the "new guy" is super talented and he takes a lotta crap here- a lot of it which is pretty unfair not to mention erroneous. He's also been extremely cool to Journey fans, even those who have dumped on him. As for Perry, the guy was amazing. DUH. But to me, a lot of the stuff he did to his band really took the shine off the crown and just screams ahole. Granted, he was responsible for most of their success. I've never said anything different. I was the biggest Perry fan there was. But with all that's come out and his actions towards his fans today has just made me realize that he's kind of an ass. So is Neal. So is Cain, etc. I've never said Neal was "the man". I'm not huge Neal Schon fan though I love his band. In fact, out of all of em, Arnel and Augeri have pretty much been the classiest ones of the bunch just by how they relate to their fans. At least they DO relate to their fans unlike Perry who just sits and leads his fans on and whines about his days with Journey. But to throw so much crap at the current lineup and their current voice without also pointing out the flaws of the former monarchy is just being biased. Hey, if you don't like their new record, who gives a crap? But, while people are saying how much they like it, here you come with "it's just not as good as... " whatever. Definitely higher levels of production in both those vids - which, of course, equates to more $$. The fact that the video's quality was in question as to its origin (fan vid vs. professionally done) speaks volumes about the band's advertising/marketing budget. It's difficult to tell whether or not they indeed care about the commercial success of their albums anymore. We hear that Neal isn't concerned with the amount of airplay or an album's acceptance by mainstream markets then, they produce a video that looks like it was made with Adobe Premiere (or some other program used to make your own homemade movies, videos, etc.) rather than stepping up and making something that makes a statement and leaves people talking about what a well done video it was.
If you're going to continue producing albums and then follow them up with extensive tours supporting them year after year, it only makes sense to me to promote the shit out of it with quality radio and TV spots, one or two well made videos, and guest appearances at radio stations along the tour path. I mean you're going to be in such and such town anyway, why not fill as many seats as possible with a bit more marketing? I just don't get it.

I hope you're right that it's a one off for their show in Manila next year because it definitely wasn't up to standards for any type of American release. It looked like those videos that first started popping up on late night night TV BEFORE MTV was launched. I honestly thought it was fan vid at first.

For a band who boasted that they made more money last year than any other time of their career, they sure seem to be tightfisted around this release with the crap CD packaging and now this.

They could do a lot better if they are using that program let me tell you. The shots of Manila are all nice, but they should have just recorded a live video and thrown in the shots of the city. A bit like Dry County live in London by Bon Jovi

Beats the crap out of the Separate Ways video.

As bad as the Separate Ways video was, it did get noticed. We can all laugh at it it now but back then it served its purpose.

NOBODY thought it was cool back then. It was stupid then. It's stupid now. Journey should've stuck to live videos. Other than Randy Jackson's look, "The Girl Can't Help It" was the best video the band did- actually all of those ROR videos were great. The Frontiers videos were all completely terrible. Escapes were good because they were live.

It got noticed because a record company pushed it. If it came out today, under the walmart deal, without major label support- it'd suffer the same fate as pretty much any "classic rock band" material does these days. That video was also ridiculed (and rightly so). Not sure what people would have the band do these days. I'm happy to see them doing new music, unlike Styx who just want to do the oldies circuit and that's it.

This isn't 1983 anymore when a rock band's videos actually get played.

I certainly hope Journey's next move is to produce a Rap Album so it gets sales. That's all that's important to me.
