KLOS doesn't play anything from this century, I don't expect to hear new music from Journey or any other artist on their station. It's always been that way.
Mark and Bryan are talk show hosts, they aren't DJs in any sense of the word.
There are other stations in Los Angeles that play current rock music but I don't know how many of them Journey did interviews with. Classic Rock stations don't play current/new music, Journey's PR people have to know that. The only thing you pimp on those stations are tour dates. SIRIUS is really the only alternative for bands like Journey to get on the air with new stuff but that listening market is still very small. I know new cars come with that stuff built in but I don't know of many people who actually pay for a subscription.

Yeah, that's weird. Do interviews for stations that'll play yer record. Don't do them for those that don't unless it's all talk station or something.

I'll never understand why classic rock stations are so hypocritical and don't support their artists. I wish we could go back to the days of 'album oriented' FM rock stations.

YES YES YES. I've said this forever. Our local Seattle station does this too. Then, if they interview the band, and the interview is over or not happening yet, they just rank on the band. It's crap. I mean, really? People just wanna hear "Stairway to Heaven" every single day? C'mon, play some new stuff by classic rock artists....

They're doing radio interviews on these stations to target the crowd that will buy their record.

Anytime would be a good time now for that promo Andrew was talking about.
Greg wrote:A lot of those stations have pre-recorded playlists that they purchase in packages from my understanding. I had a friend who was a DJ for much of the 90's, and this was basically when all radio stations (especially the ones owned under the umbrella of Clear Channel Communications) were switching to these pre-formated playlists. Basically, if it's a classic rock station, the DJs don't have a say over what is played from those artists. They just play the playlists on the computer, which means you're hearing Dazed And Confused or More Than A Feeling played rather than something new from those bands (well, maybe the "something new" from those bands thing referring to Boston was a bad example.) Basically, they hit the play button and go into the other room and eat a ham and cheese sandwich. Now, I don't know if all stations are like this. I'm sure there are a select few in which the DJs have a bit more say so over what gets played, but it's basically a format thing.
Even the stations that claim to play "anything" have pre-selected playlists. I found this to be true when I was listening to one of those playlists driving down to see my girlfriend. I remembered the songs they played that morning, and low and behold, they played the same exact songs in the same exact order that evening when I was driving home. Coincidence? I don't know, but I think it was a pre-selected / pre-recorded playlist. The only stations playing anything new on a regular basis is Top 40 stations, and we all know what's played on those stations. The best bet is Adult Contemporary stations. I have heard new stuff from Journey and Foreigner there, although it's very seldom.
