Well, it's official... I'm now in an 80's pop band!

You know it's funny you said that, because the bass player said the same thing. It's pretty much all keyboard, and unless I sequenced the whole thing, there would be no way to make it work. It would definitely fit the 80's pop bill though!

Nice try - 1988 actually  . Seriously, I'll take a look through my songlist - 80's pop/retro is admittedly one of my weaknesses, mainly because of the memories of going out dancing to those tunes. Lots of good times!

I know a lot of folks don't like this tune and it has been played to death from advertisements to TV shows, etc.
However, it is definitely 80s pop and danceable.

Damn, they've got one huge list of songs!! They've obviously been together for a while to have a list like that. They do have a lot of cool songs that I'd love to do, so I'm sure you'll see some of these in our list too. They have a female singer too though, which adds a TON of cool 80's songs they can pull off. Who knows, maybe we'll add one too. It would definitely add to the sound and open up a bunch of possibilities!

And Ginger... Bands can ALWAYS use more cowbell. 8)

Here's a list of the first songs we've worked on...

Overkill - Men at Work
Just what I needed - The Cars
Jenny 867-5389 - Tommy Tutone
Don't You Forget about Me - Simple Minds
Just Like Heaven - The Cure
Lips Like Sugar - Bunnymen
Burnin Down the House - Talking Heads
Melt With You - Modern English
New Years Day - U2
Died in your Arms Tonight - Cutting Crew
Whip It - Devo

Some of the other songs we're going to be doing are...

Love Walks In- Van Halen
Every Breath You Take- The Police
Message In A Bottle- Police- we played it tonight, and it kicked ASS!! :D
I Ran- Flock Of Seagulls
Crazy Train- Ozzy

We have a total list of 25 songs so far, but these are the only ones I can remember off the top of my head. You guys helped me change my mind about the rock songs, and most of the new songs we added are rock tunes. Oh yeah, one of them was one of the big Billy Squire hits. We also played Van Halen's "Aint Talkin' Bout Love", and I covered the backing guitar tracks on my keyboard. These guys are awesome musicians, and I can't wait to see what else we get into! :D I'll keep you posted on the set list, and I'll be asking for some song ideas. If you think of any more, please keep them coming.

YAY!!! :D The drummer I enlisted last night has a TON of contacts at the beach, because that's where he's gigged for the last 5 years mostly. I'm excited as hell to finally get a good group of musicians together after all these years. :D I was surprised last night to find out that both the guitarist AND the bass player sing lead, and they're both really good! Another cool thing is that there will only be 4 of us, yet there will always be 2 backing vocalists. I'm used to always playing in 6 piece bands, so with 4, we'll be making more money which is always a good thing. We won't have as much equipment to haul around either. These are the first 5 songs we're rehearsing on Sunday...

1. Don't You Forget About Me- Simple Minds
2. Overkill- Men At Work
3. Whip It- Devo
4. Just What I Needed- The Carrs
5. Just Like Heaven- The Cure

Great songs. You need this one from the '80s too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST86JM1RPl0

Awesome song Jana, and it's already been added to the list! We've got about 15 songs on the list so far. These first 5 are just the first ones we're working on for Sunday. This project is going to be a blast! :D I'd love to add Mindight Oil's "Bed's Are Burning" song. We'll be playing some U2, Glass Tiger, etc... NO CULTURE CLUB just in case someone here was going to ask. Lol!!

I was thinking Modern Talking and Milli Vanilli

I bought it specifically for this project because it's LOADED with 80's sounds that Sean loves so much! :D please keep the danceable song ideas coming!

The Juno Gi flat out ROCKS! Sooooooo many possibilities wrapped into that little tidy little package, no?! LOVE the d-beam or what ever the Hell it's called... that's just too freakin' cool. I've always liked Roland and Oberheim products. They produce such fat, rich sounds and then give you a bazillion things you can do with it once you've produced it!

Sweet keyboard!
