Good call, RVR. They didn't get any sleep. I guess they are expected to be machines.

No, they're expected to have a management team that knows how to coordinate stuff like this.

Agreed and this was a Big Deal for them. It wasn't horrible but I wasn't impressed. Arnel is much better than this.

Out there in the city it sure looked like people were enjoying themselves and they were not MR arm chair critics. That's all that
matters to the band and this gig should be considered a success and great publicity.

I agree. They get all these Rave reviews from the MSP show and show up for the Today show just a bit off. Although I'm betting it's pretty hard when your tired to just jump in there and sing on que rather then doing the songs in a concert setting. I know it's not easy to schedule all this, since there are only so many open dates. Anyway, it was OK, I was hoping for stellar!

We'll be able to get a preliminary idea on that in about three days time. The tour is already selling well so the only thing to push is Eclipse.

Just thinking, maybe this is something they should actually work on. Basically how to do a live TV performance since there are a lot of timing and other performance issues that don't occur in a live concert setting? They obviously haven't done enough of these!!!!!

That's all irrelevant, Stu. They're on fucking TV. Short of getting sick or some reasonable unplanned emergency, you can't schedule a NATIONAL TELEVISION APPEARANCE and then expect the viewers to grade you with your tour schedule in mind. They're gonna judge the performance on merit, and nothing else.

From what I heard from people who saw it that aren't Journey nuts like us it was excellent.

What I am saying is you all are judging them too harshly because you aren't being objective.

If you mean to suggest that the performance was good given the circumstances, I'd agree. Dan and Don's point, though, is that a competent management team would have ensured that those circumstances would not have occurred, allowing for an even better job.

I called the performances "okay." Brywool, a semi-professional vocalist, said Arnel had "morning" voice on the first few songs. Hey, you schedule that during their SIX WEEK vacation from April to June and the guy probably has the luxury of waking up at 4am ... rather than arriving at that time after a gig the night before! While it's speculative, I feel that these show appearances are nothing more than last ditch efforts to try and make up for a colossal fuck up on the part of management and the band regarding the release of Eclipse. If you sat back and said "Let's really try to fuck up this release and totally make it flop. I mean, let's not do any promotion, don't check with Walmart and make sure this thing is ready to be launched properly, let's not schedule any television appearances prior to the release and, just to add some icing on the cake, let's schedule appearances and make our singer perform 5 days in a row!" ... this is what you'd get. Their management has destroyed this release. They've done as poorly a job as is even comprehensible! Who starts promoting a fucking CD 2 months after its release?!?! :?

Right on all accounts. Maybe it's time to find a decent manager, one who cares about the band.

Oh ... it gets better. I don't live in Chicago anymore or I would have known this, but I just got a text asking me if I'm at the show. They're in Chicago tonight. One of their biggest and best markets, 26k last time, and Arnel is coming off of 5 straight days of singing. Kudos to management!

Enough sense that he's made the most money, by far, of any member from Journey and also seems the happiest. This band has suffered periodically from poor management since some sociopath decided it would be a good idea to fire Herbie.

I'll defend Neal on a lot of things, but I'm not sure decision-making is one of them. He's 100% artist with an infinite vista of creativity, but I'd leave the decision-making to someone else.

For them to have Arnel's mug on that picture from soundscan for DSB is a fucking joke. The dude didn't have a hand in the single and the plaque has his mug on it. WTF.

Yeah, but he's the guy pulling the train these days, so it's only fitting. Arnel is the face of Journey. Get used to it.
As far as I'm concerned, he's helped the band earn all the accolades they are now getting. It's nice to see them
getting some respect, for a change.

They're professionals that's not an excuse. My biggest problem with Arnie is that he over sings the songs and sounds like shit on the vocs that are in a higher range and his performance on the Today show showed exactly what I bitch about with his vocals. It's a major reason why I think the two albums they put out with him suck. When he sings lower notes a la the beginning of Faithfully he sounds damn good. When he tries to sing in a higher notes he can't do them justice and then he over sings them.

He hasn't helped the band earn any of the accolades they're getting now. He didn't get the band make the people on the Soprano's to use the song, he didn't get the folks on Glee to use the song. The song still sells because it's a great song. If anything Perry is the one who is out there getting the band the accolades because he's out there with the Chi Sox leading Don't Stop Believin' when they were going for their World Series, he was leading a section of Pac Bell Park in a rendition of Don't Stop Believin'. The only thing Arnie has done for the band has helped gain exposure via a sob story of a poor Phillipino kid who now fronts a large American band.

If these guys had sense, they would only include songs in their set list that AP can consistently nail. Hit and miss is never good. He's got a
tough job, but he can make better out of his best and they should throw out the rest.

That's true. I forget about Deen because he seems like he's been in the band forever. He is the longest reigning drummer the band has had.

I'm not sure if you genuinely believe this, but I'm fairly certain most of the concert-goers for the past three years would show up if the only thing fronting the band was a microphone stand with a mullet wig, tailcoat, and a few memories.
