I know I will face a lot of ridicule for what I am about to say... What I don't get is all the people who breed childrena nd don't give a darn only to think they are somehow better than me because I have none. No human children anyway. I know my personal limits. I love kids, but can't handle them. I am not cut out for it. I do however give a lot of love to give, just in a different way . We all have gifts and if we listen we'll know how to best use them.

I won't ridicule you for that... our world is quickly becoming overpopulated, and infinite growth cannot be sustained forever. I can't believe I actually made a new acquaintance last night who feels the same way I do about that.

Of all of the people who post on here, I didn't expect this from you. You're usually one of the first to stand up for others, not kick someone when they are down and in pain. Just because you "don't get it" and don't understand why someone would love their pet so much is no excuse.

Until we had a dog of our own, my dad was old school and didn't understand it either - how someone could love their pet as a family member and would be willing to pay $1500 to save it. There is no question now that he would. Until you really look at a pet as an individual with its own personality who loves you unconditionally, you probably won't understand it. And yes, it is worth the long hours I would have to work to save $1500 if it meant saving my beloved dog's life. She is irreplaceable.

How'd she make out during the 5 hour thunderstorm last night? I know at least a couple of us in this house didn't get much sleep

She shook so badly at first that we were afraid we would have to medicate her, but after a while she hid under my blanket and dozed off. I think she tired herself out! She slept better than I did.

For all those who agreed with Rick's sentiment and used the dying in Africa as a comparison of 'How dare people be so concerned about animals when humans are suffering in the world', still not one has posted a thread about those dying in Africa with a link to a charity for people to donate money and actually do something about it. What matters is that people at least give a damn about something. If they don't understand why someone would love their pet so much, that's their business, but dumping on others for it was unnecessary. This is one fucked up thread. I wouldn't even know where to take this one, but will say that I really don't get the point of those claiming that they don't have children, so their pets are important to them. Not really sure what that has to do with anything. I'm reasonably certain that loving your children and your family pet aren't mutually exclusive concepts. My son will be 5 in two months...our family cat just turned 13, and I wouldn't be happy to lose either one of them.

I've always believed that anyone who would intentionally harm an animal or get pleasure from seeing an animal hurt or killed is completely fucked in the head! I'm not a dog owner, because any animal who needs to be walked on a 2 degree February morning is way too much maintenance for my lifestyle. That said, I would still probably snap someone's neck if I witnessed them trying to intentionally hurt a dog.
