Has anyone been to an Eddie Money show lately?

Postby Penguinpc » Sat Aug 13, 2011 3:04 am

He's coming to our area in September and my wife would like to see him.

However, the videos of him I've watched on Youtube have left me underwhelmed. He lets the crowd and his daughter carry most of "Take Me Home Tonight" and some of his other performances just aren't that great.

I would love to be proven wrong, as my wife would really like to see him.

If you've seen him in the last couple of years, what was the show like?

Thanks.

Just go see him. There's a lot of acts out there that aren't spectacular vocally anymore. If they have a replacement singer, there's really no excuse but if it's the original vocalist I don't mind rewarding them with a ticket purchase in exchange for all the great memories and enjoyment I have gotten from a particular song/album.

I saw him three years ago. I thought it was a fun, enjoyable show. Three years could be an eternity at these guys' age, but he sounded pretty good. Sure, not like the 80s, but it was fun and he played a GREAT setlist, including Endless Nights (one of his most underrated tunes).

Let Your Wife Decide

Postby Rocker Chic » Sat Aug 13, 2011 3:58 am

I remember being 14 years old and 'Bat Out of Hell' was the first album that I had ever bought. I absolutely adore that album to this day. A few years ago, I finally got a chance to see Meat Loaf for the 1st time...

It was heartbreaking seeing him struggle to sing those songs. His age and asthma has taken it's toll on his voice and the power that it once possessed. I felt so sad for him, but I left Madison Square Garden feeling oddly satisfied. I had finally gotten to see a performer that I've always loved. However lackluster his performance was to hear, I could see the pain he was going through and determination he had in trying to deliver a fantastic show for his fans, yet to actually see him perform them for me and everyone else was just wonderful.

Allow your wife to decide for herself. I adore Eddie Money, too, and have seen him quite a few times over the years, however, it's been many years since I've seen him last. Even if his voice is not what it used to be, if she loves him so much, she will still be happy that she got to finally see him.

Everyone I know had a good time at it. Don't expect flawless American Idol vocals (hate that anyway) and you'll probably enjoy the show.

I wonder if this is what it would be like seeing Steve Perry perform today, if he chose do do so?

The other thing to remember is that it's not like Eddie was ever known for crazy vocal acrobatics. The songs are fun and the party will be good.

Twice ... painful and embarrassing both times; he ducks almost all the singing and tells icky jokes badly.

And I'm Miss GO! Enjoy! Don't Expect Perfection!

But there is a minimum threshold below which it's just not fun.

I'm sure he was paid well and enjoyed playing in front of 20,000 people. :?

You know he doesn't get to do that very often.

I saw him play in front of about 250 people a few years ago at a street fest. I heard he got paid $2,500.00 for it. That is dirt cheap!

I'd go see him , your not going to have to many more chances with him being in his 60's , its amazing he can still sing as good as he does , he's been a big smoker for years , he even shows signs that he may have COPD(respiratory condition). I saw him about 10 yrs ago , he took off his shirt on stage it was real obvious that he has a barrel chest(not fat) which is real common in long term smokers. I think he sounds great for his age.
