Not sure how you draw that conclusion. It is your right to believe in god. It is a free country. You are also free to bring your kids up as you see fit, within the remit of the law. It is also within your right to make them grow up believing that the holocaust didn't happen, but you wouldn't expect Nazism to be taught in schools or for the school to assemble in front of a swastika every morning in order to pledge their allegence to the fuhrer.

I know.

Interesting. Why?
artist4perry wrote:I went to a christian Academy and a Christian University for two years, I had the time of my life at both, and enjoyed school very much. I started going there in the 9th grade.
I don't know what 9th grade is, but I don't think many 5 year olds get to choose where they go to school.
artist4perry wrote:I will tell you that I learned a great deal in bible, mostly reading the scriptures and memory work on what it says.
I noticed and unfortunately that has lead to you abandoning reality and critical thinking.
artist4perry wrote:It is not mandatory to attend these schools, you have to WANT to go, I am proud I attended there. I made lifelong friendships, and I had kind wonderful teachers who didn't mind helping you if you didn't understand something, because the ratio of student to teacher was smaller.
I suspect you only wanted to go there because you had already been brainwashed. Based on your understanding of scientific reasoning, scientific theory and evolution, which I have read across a number of threads, your education appears to have been extremely poor. However, this does to serve to illustrate my point.
It is a huge threat to America if all it can turn out of it's schools and colleges are people whose take on the world is totally remote from how the world really works. The understanding of evolution is but one example. Evolutionary theory is central to matters that affect our lives daily such as molecular biology, agriculture, biotechnology, conservation and even software development. These are issues that are vital for the survival of the human race. Examples of what this means in the real world are the scientists who develop new pesticides in response to pesticide resistant predators, scientists who develop antibiotics in response to resistant bacteria and scientists who develop plants (fruit & veg) that will grow in inhospitable climates.
Duncan, first off you cannot know my extent of knowledge over a forum board. That made me laugh out loud! I have had 6 and 1/2 years of college 4and 1/2 in a Public University. Because I don't want to spend countless hours spewing facts over evolution does not measure my intelligence. And since you never went to school where I did you cannot know what I learned now can you? Just because I learned something does not mean I have to believe in it. Some of evolutions facts I can agree with. Just not all. And some things scientists are not sure about themselves.
As for your insulting my intelligence I take it in stride. I don't sit around looking for your approval. I am quite secure in who I am as a person.
As for your insults in another thread about my art, that kind of shows me your childishness. Your mad at me because of my stances here in this thread so you attack my art? Personally I could care less about your opinion on that as well. As an artist I have dealt with critics. When I have so may great reviews from art directors, instructors, and other people in the art world I am hardly going to listen to someone who seems to lack art savoy. So pardon me if I care more about what the people in the know think of my work.
You ask me how I can draw the conclusion about your lack of tolerance to people of faith, I would guess it was because you seem so driven to make people think like you do on the subject. Also because you get so personal on it. You get mad and insult others. So that makes me think you have an issue with someone of faith.
The schools are private, with private funding, so it should not bother you what they teach. But they are controlled by the Government to be sure they teach things according to the government standards. They don't control the bible curriculum but they control all other curriculum. So again I still don't see how you can say what they do or do not teach.
My children went to public school because I personally cannot afford private. Wish now that I could. My son with his learning disabilities would have had more one on one assistance.
Prove that people who believe in God are less intelligent. Prove it. You cannot. You can get some scientists who hate religion who insinuate it, or believe it personally, but they cannot prove it. So much for that deep though Jack Handy.
I never said I don't like science or most science. I just don't agree with the stuff they have not proven. I actually did well in science. I really think the agenda for the atheist crowd is clear. Throw disparagement on those you find egregiously lacking in knowledge because they dare to disagree with you. That alone is a pompous anal retentive view of the world.
Duncan I have no problem with you personally. I have no problem with you having a different point of view. Is it truly necessary to belittle those who do not think like you do. Many highly intelligent people believe in God. It is just another way of looking at the world and how it formed. You should not get so bent out of shape over it. You don't have to buy into it or accept it. That is what choice is about.
And as far as brainwashed, my father gave me choices. He had me study all religions, and also I went to a public school till I was around 15. It was my choice. I am very glad I made it. Have a good day.[/quote]
