So I'll throw a log on the fire. :)

Verizon Workers on strike.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp ... 4#44099424

Verizon just paid a $10 Billion dividend to it's stock holders, had $27 Billion in revenue in the second quarter and wants it's employees to take what equates to a $20,000 a year cut in pay and benefits.

Sounds like it's time for the US to have another revolution. A little socialism, like a little salt, does you good ;)

I just watched some of the link that Rick posted. Just fire those goofs. Fuck, look at them. Hire a couple of hungry high school grads and save the company some money. Those people don't seem like they'll be too hard to replace. My company doubled our health insurance costs and I didn't say a word. If I have a problem with it, I'll simply go and find another place of employment, and I suggest those people do, too. Standing outside like useless slabs of meat and making fools of yourself, also known as the shameless act of "protesting," is really fucking dumb.

Hate to break the news to you, but if and when the next revolution comes to America, it will be a revolution to take out these socialist bastards that infect our government and welfare class.

Meh, not my country. If you want to sell your very souls for another dollar instead of looking after your communities, take your handbasket and be done with it.

The Tea Bagger dialogue would lead one to believe so and, when it comes down to it, they're the main instigators and the ones all over the message boards making (c)overt threats and stockpiling weapons.

However, you're dead wrong. The only revolution will be a symbolic one, and it will involve the middle class taking their country back from the rich elitists and mega corporations.

One of my clients' husbands is in upper management at Verizon, and his contract stipulates he and the other guys in management have to work 12 hour shifts, seven days a week, until the conflict is resolved. Never mind that it's backbreaking, highly dangerous work out in the field, and they have no formal training. He said about 5% of the strikers are over the edge and out of control, but the remainder is mostly engaged in peaceful protests. He's on their side. Of course, they've told him his position will be outsourced to India after the strike ends (thank you, George Dubbya), or that if he quits, his severance package is null and void.

"his contract"
Pretty much says it all. Was he coerced into signing it, or was it by choice?

Since I retired I depend on dividends from corporations for income like many other ritirees. Since Verizon is known as one of those "Blue Chip" companies, it's in a whole lot of 401s, probably yours. Thank you for the dividend Verizon!

Hey, when things get crazy and all heck breaks loose; looting, riots, total shutdown of the grid..........I am going to go find one of those hunter folks and make good friends. They will have the know how to make and find food. Survivalists will rule the country.

Go Elmer! Viva la rustic living! I personally will learn farming.

I can make baskets and other things of use in survival. "TO THE HILLS!'" *runs off laughing wildly*

Those employees get 100% free health care, god forbid they have to pay a little bit like everybody else in the working world does. I have no sympathy for those people, they rake in close to 6 figures a year and have a benefits package that most people could only dream of having. I see nothing wrong with Verizon trying to bring these greedy people back to earth so they're on par with the rest of us.

First, I sit on union health and welfare and pension trusts and appreciate their work.

However, dressing up in rat costumes and bannering good employers like they do does nothing to help their cause. Hell, half the time they are after other unions in our area.

You socialists that bitch about the Corps... bitch and bitch...and then bitch again when the value of your pensions go down when they are not profitable. How many of your pensions invest in Verizon?

Union guys do it all the time. Bitch about "the man" and bitch again when their pension is in the tank. OxyMORONic.

I am slowly turning against unions, they seem to be very self-centered and short sighted anymore. They don't realize that strikes like this are more harmful in the long run and they are only hurting themselves. Verizon isn't losing a minute of sleep over this and why should they, they're paying 45,000 less people than they were before the strike.
