No publishing rights.

With no Augeri songs on the disc, I think Sony has made it pretty clear who they consider Journey to be.

I will probably buy this but I think that most subsequent greatest hits packages should move forward and not back (or stand still like this.) What I mean is a 2nd greatest hits package normally has the hits from succeeding albums... but Journey's greatest hits volume 2 has stuff from, surprise, surprise, early to late Perry-era...

I would have expected a second greatest hits cd to have stuff from Arrival, Generations, Revelation and the singles from Eclipse (even though it's a flop)... but of course with all the different labels conflicting that idea, that would be difficult. I have all the songs on this track list already, from owning the Essentials and The Very Best of. Still, I'll buy it because, why the fuck not? I'm a hardcore enough fan not to think it's a waste of money. Just another Journey album that will sit with the other ones on my basement shrine.

Maybe Sony got wind of some kind of Nomota deal with Wal-Mart that was going to use the title for some kind of compilation package and decided to lay their claim before that could happen.

None of those albums have any songs on them that the public considers hits. I do agree with your thoughts on what a subsequent GH should be though.

Maybe it's time for Journey to find a label again. We can all see how the Nomota thing is going. Neal needs to realize that this is another one of his failed ventures and move on.
Lady Gaga has a label and they promote the shit out of her and last time I checked Neal is not a very good marketing guy.

Theoretically, You can have both a big name label and Wal-Mart deal. AC-DC released Black Ice under Sony as a Wal-Mart exclusive.

Except, isn't WM bailing on music? Where do they go from here, a Costco exclusive for the next one? Costco shoppers are more affluent and spend more.

The Very Best of has lots of songs that the public don't consider the very best of either... and a few of the ones on the Essentials the fans here have deemed not essential. I doubt on any subsequent greatest hits cd that whether they're huge hits or not isn't very relevent (some cases are the opposite) but just take a look at alot of them, some just have songs that charted or were released as singles. That's all I'm saying, that there's songs from those albums that should be on a complilation, and I do agree that the majority of the songs from those 4 albums weren't huge hits, but look, a couple of the songs on GH V.2 weren't that huge, either.

I have an idea, why don't some of you make your Greatest Hits Volume 2? Not just "this should be replaced with this", but your idea on what tracks should be there

I already have everything, literally everything. I own all of it, right down to Neal and Jon's solo albums. There is nothing more for me to buy, until there is another album or DVD.
WinAmp has a shuffle option. Why would I go buy an album of something I already have?

That's your choice.

What I was suggesting was having others make their track listing if they were organizing GH V.2, just out of curiosity.

Wow, couldn't Stevie have insisted on at least some new form of cover art? Song choices are - ok. I think the Essential was a better venture into repackaging greatest hits than this, though. I wonder if Steve did an remixing to any of the tracks? The Evolution, Escape, and Party's Over haven't had anything done to them since the 96 album reissues.

I think its good to see more of the early stuff represented on this one. EJ was pretty much about 81-86.

This could very well be the reason. If so, it's a pretty shrewd move by Sony and Perry.

Because Journey has 200 songs better than it. Shit...Bad English has 20 songs better than it.

Because it gets skipped 99% of the time.

Because its BS that a mediocre ballad on an album filled with mediocre ballads would get the privilege of being on a Journey GH album over superior songs from the same era just because Steve Perry sang it and didn't sing on the better songs.

Its just garbage and it pisses me off - and that's being nice.

If Neal and company has taken a loss on the Eclipse album, will releasing GH2 offset some of that loss from a business point of view or will it benefit Sony and Mr Perry only? The timing just seem odd to me, no foul intent just wondering why now with Eclipse kinda sinking like a rock ( I still think it's a good album just not promoted well )

'Sony and former lead vocalist Steve Perry chose the songs for the compilation with Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain offering no objections. As was the case with the original Greatest Hits, this set only covers the Steve Perry fronted Journey years.'

Also see in other news, Andy Taylor is going to have a new solo album soon too. :D

Very interesting that Neal and Jonathan were mum on this, unless you figure they know where their bread is buttered. Even so, some of the choices are without question personal favorites more than "hits."
