Oh, just helping your girlfriend look for your man parts. We're
hoping someone has them in a jar somewhere, because what
we've located, thus far, wouldn't keep a Chiwawa satisfied!!

According to Don, Sony doesn't have the rights to those songs.

I've never bought the first volume of the Greatest Hits. I don't see the sense in buying a CD that's made up of songs that I already have a million times over.

If they would add some never-before-available material to it, then I'd buy it.

I can't imagine this selling well, given the economy, state of CD sales in the past decade, and the fact that they're much deeper cuts. But I've been wrong before............. Occasionally.

Regurgitated artwork and if it follows the trend of the Greatest Hits, 80% of the sales will be downloads. Really, not much overhead on this release. No way Sony loses here.

I can, Revelation and Greatest Hits were charting/selling well at the same time. I don't believe for one second, folks were buying Greatest Hits and then buying Revelation (at the same time) because it had Greatest Hits as well - essentially buying Greatest Hits twice.

Theory, speculation, abstract thought ...anything but fact!!
There are a number of different scenarios that could've played out here. For
one, a whole new fan base that knew diddly~squat of Journey history, Steve Perry!?! :?

My guess is, so long as Mix-master SMFP is at the helm, there won't ever be any such material included in any Journey GH/Best of package.

Maybe...But :

Selling points on Rev were (and not in this particular order)

New CD
Live DVD (Journey always seems to sell those well)
the price/package
Arnel and his story on multiple talk shows

I have never known anyone to buy a GH redone over the original GH...

GH has sold a zillion copies and is available wherever fine cd's are sold.

Now granted, some folks may have chosen because the redone classics were included in the package, but I'm more than sure that the majority of folks that bought Rev picked it up because of the Redo's as their main reason.

Funny how the original sentiment on here was that the fans would roundly reject the package because of those re-records. Now, years later, and almost a million packages moved, it's the only way to justify the sales and pat Perry on the head.

It's really simple. The promotion and exposure (Ellen, Oprah, CBS Sunday Morning Show and GQ), the price, the inclusion of a live DVD and 2 songs on the AC charts, all made it the perfect package. And that's why it sold. Now, let's look at Eclipse. No promotion, no exposure, not nearly the TV audiences reached, no DVD, no songs on the AC charts and a horrible price. The math seems pretty simple to me. Throw in a DVD, put them on Oprah (hypothetically, since she's off the regular air), Ellen, a multi-page article in GQ, put 2 songs on the charts and you'll see similar sales. Probably not as many because the sales of CDs have come down dramatically since Revelation's release, but they'd be at a couple hundred thousand by now (3-4) and still moving units.

The re-records had almost everything to do with Revelation's sales. If Revelation didn't have DSB on it, it would've sold squat. As for the "original sentiment" on the forum, I remember fans bitching that the re-records were a bad idea. Neal has also said as much. I don't recall anyone predicting that the re-records would result in low sales. With JSS behind the helm and talk of possible stripped-down accoustic arrangements, I was actually for the idea. As for the promotional appearances...several of them came after Revelation's top 5 debut on the charts, so it may have helped with sales, but can't account for its initial strong showing.

Well the moon was in the 7th house and Jupiter aligned with Mars... I am sure 7 million hits a month at the website helped something... along with a new market in several worlds including Wally, Second and Manila ... so it was written, so let it be done  [always love quoting Yul]

Here's what these songs did on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart.....

Stone In Love (Did not chart)
After The Fall #23
Chain Reaction (Did not chart)
The Party's Over #34
Escape (Did not chart)
Still They Ride #19
Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile #55
Suzanne #17
Feeling That Way (Did not chart)
Anytime #83
Walks Like A Lady #32
Little Girl (Did not chart)
Just The Same Way #58
Patiently (Did not chart)
When I Think Of You (Did not chart)
Mother Father (Did not chart)

Except for one or two times ever, I haven't heard "Anytime" played on the radio without it being combined with "Feeling That Way."

"Stone In Love" and "Chain Reaction" did not chart, but I used to hear them played on Cleveland radio stations like crazy back in the 80's.

"Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" reached #60 on the American Billboard chart, but is not included on this Greatest Hits Volume 2.

"Too Late" reached #70 but is not on GH Volume 2.

"When I Think Of You" is on this GH Volume 2, but "Message Of Love" is not. A couple of Cleveland radio stations gave "Message Of Love" a lot of radio play. I never heard "When I Think Of You" on the radio.

No one has noticed the most important factor of this release.

I has given me yet another excuse to request a Steve Perry interview....which I have just done. No reply as yet :)

Since the start of the Eclipse tour, Sony's Journey catalog has outsold Nomota's Journey catalog. How could Perry (and even Steve Smith) not be knee deep in all things Journey with that kind of activity at retail? This guy's voice continues to invade new fans' portable players and car stereos every day. It's like he never left the band.

No rights as far as the tunes released after Arrival. Sorry if I wasn't specific about that earlier.
