I think this is pretty good too.

I bet if his voice is in any kind of shape he could sing ROR and FLOSM with a nice slice of Frontiers on the side...

I like the Jeff Golub stuff too.

I never heard that before. Thanks for posting. This is from 2003? Nice little slow groove song to relax you after a long hard day at work.

I like the Jeff Golub song too. I really don't care if his range is diminished or whatever; he has so many other great vocal qualities that I love to hear! :)

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't really care THAT much for how Steve Perry sounded on those first few albums with Journey. I do appreciate a few of those songs from those albums, but those vocals were not what got me into Journey to begin with. It was hearing Steve Perry and Journey on the radio one day when Separate Ways came on. That voice is what made me love Steve Perry's vocals - not that high, operatic voice he had on Infinity, Evolution, or Departure. In the beginning, it was only the Frontiers album that was by far my favorite album from Journey, not Escape.

With that said, I suppose that is why I am one of the few who really appreciated and enjoyed the later albums that Perry sang on. While others point out degradation in his voice, it's probably because they were fans more of his young voice, but not me. What Perry may have lost in terms of range forced him to strengthen other aspects of his voice, and I really can appreciate that. Honestly, if Perry's 70's voice had stayed intact, I probably wouldn't have liked Journey nearly as much.

Actually I agree with you on much of this! Especially on Evolution…for some reason when I listen to it, I think it is just too high. I guess they were trying to showcase his upper range at the time because it was so unique. Separate Ways was the first Journey song I remember really getting into. I have memories of sitting in high school math class with that song just running over and over in my head.

I was 2nd row for that NYC show. It's no wonder I walked away with good memories. It was a good show!

Agreed on the era of preference, but even Frontiers-era Perry was an incredibly high tenor. Range is essential for the Journey catalog and the style of music that Perry deals in. His vocals on TBF ranged between decent to substandard.
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

if he's singing BV on the track "Follow The Freedom"... his part is buried... I can't hear him...

On Facebook yesterday, Stevie Keys posted a pic of Perry (from the Giants series last year) and "heard through the grapevine that there is activity (just saying')".

Later on he posted a pic of Perry at the Hollywood WOF & said "wouldn't it be nice to have the voice back?"

Keys is not one to unnecessarily fan the flames of the rumor mill & he's pretty well tight with most people in and around the Journey camp, so odds are he's heard SOMETHING beyond the usual "I think about singing every day, I've been recording demos at my house, blah blah blah..." I think we'll hear something from Perry fairly soon.

Sounds great to me Jeremey! By the way, I wanted to get up to Roanoke to see you guys perform but got back into town a bit too late! Hope the voice is healing up nicely for you!

Yea, cause a double platinum album (using normal math) with 4 top 40 hits is always worse than something that can't sell 100k copies.
