Master Planned Community Help Requests

Postby KenTheDude » Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:34 am

We moved into a master planned community at the end of January. We have our own message board where we can interact with the other neighbors and share info regarding the community. But lately, I've been seeing a certain trend regarding recommendations. It seems like every other day I see posts asking if someone knows of a person, for example, to fix their fence. I'm thinking "Really? Can't you do this yourself?" It's just a standard wooden fence. Just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get the materials and swing a hammer. The one that takes the cake is the dude asking for help to hang a curtain rod. A CURTAIN ROD! He said his wife wouldn't let him do it. What a sap! There's been few asking for a guy to trim a few bushes or replace the little piece of wood between the sections of concrete driveway (REALLY!). Either these people are lazy or just terribly inept. A curtain rod takes literally 15 minutes to hang. The one in our two story den is 21 feet off the ground and over 10 feet long and I hung it by myself in about 30 or 45 minutes. I just don't get it.

If you can afford to not do that sort of stuff, yourself, heck, hire it out. People are out of work and would probably really appreciate the extra $$$ for such quick jobs. But the dude that wouldn't fix something because his wife wouldn't allow it is a real sap. Obviously, he's never heard the old expression, "What do you tell a woman with 2 black eyes? Nothing ... you already told her twice." Not that I recommend it ... but I bet it works.

The Home Depot parking lot, enhancing American homes one wetback at a time.
Seriously, if you have the money and people are out there who will do the task 10 times better than yourself why not hire them?
Does any home owner in So Cal do any of their own landscaping? Hell, no. You pay your hundred bucks a month, and have people come in twice a week that make your lawn look frickin' fantastic. Masonry. fencing, roofing, it doesn't matter; for less than a grand you can get the work done and it will be hundred times better looking than your own effort. And these guys work by word of mouth so they aren't going to do a crap job and risk getting a bad rap.
Now, the guy with the shower rod issue needs to man up. If worse comes to worse, till the back yard and make that bitch disappear.

Sounds like the solution to the concert travel fund to me...

I'm pretty sure some wetback couldn't do my lawn better than I do it. I'm really picky when it comes to lawns. The other stuff? Maybe so but I like doing this sort of stuff. Keeps your mind fresh and gives you a great sense of accomplishment.
