Quick Vocal Throat Spray Question

Postby Memorex » Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:38 am

My daughter who is new to singing has a performance tonight and has a fairly active cough. I've heard some of you talk about throat sprays before. Can anyone recommend anything that I can grab somewhere local (target/walmart/walgreens/etc)?

I've used a product called Vocal-Eze before, available at music stores. I don't know of anything you could get at a regular drug store though. There's another brand of voice spray that I think is sold at Whole Foods. But if you are near a Sam Ash music store or Guitar Center, check out there.

Thanks. We cooked up hot lemon and honey tea. She did great.

I only got to see the Starbucks performance and that girl can sing! Glad to hear the performance went well.

I realize my reply is after the fact but...... should this ever come up again, one thing that is a staple among singers and has been listed on every rider I've ever read of Journey's is Throat Coat tea. Perry, Augeri, JSS, Pineda, they all had it listed on the rider as a requirement.

Janis Joplin used to use that too.. Throat Coat... hold the tea...

Mama Cass Elliot had a different spin on it and tried to lube the pipes with a ham sandwich and we all know how that worked out!

(Actually, that story about her choking to death on a ham sandwich is completely false but it became folklore and the rumor stuck.)

I had believed that until I read this, so what happened?
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Exactly. Sorta like the folklore about Lizzy Borden and that whole legend. Truth is, she was acquitted BOTH times and there was actually no evidence of any kind that pointed to her as the attacker.

Same for Elvis wasn't it?

The story of the King straining too hard on the throne and dying with a turtlehead is still hilarious...

$3700.00 keyboard.... as in thirty-seven-hundred-dollars US ??! Please tell me you omitted a decimal point somewhere in the middle of that series of numbers! And if not, I gotta ask.... WHAT THE FUCK could possibly make a keyboard cost THAT much?!?!  I mean seriously, does it anticipate what you're going to type and all you have to do is hold your hands above the board and it somehow types the words flawlessly?!

Lol!! Not THAT kind of keyboard man. I have my Mac in front of my Motif keyboard. I have it set up in my studio in a big workstation. And yes, it was $3700.00 US. That's not counting the memory expansion I bought for it. It's my most favorite keyboard I've ever owned (and I've owned many). Never thought you'd mistake it for a computer keyboard. that WOULD be one kick-ass keyboard! That thing would have to fetch me beers, take out the trash, and wipe my ass for me.

Ya know, as soon as I posted that reply, I sauntered into the kitchen to freshen my beverage and while I was away from my PC, I was racking my brain trying to think how, what, where.... a $3700 keyboard and then I remembered you're a fellow keyboardist.... DUH!!!!!!
I tried to get back here in time to edit my post and remove the 8X10 color glossy's with the circles and the arrows depicting who the moron was.... but it was too late.

Now, on a more serious note.... you know better than to have liquids of any kind within 10 feet of your boards mister!!

VocalEze is good stuff. Entertainer's Secret sux. throat coat rules.
for a cough, that's not good. The coughing inflames the vocal chords. Get some Delsym to stop the cough. Ibuprofen helps with the chords swelling.
