Not sure where you got that impression from Inspector Clouseau since you have not attended a live show since the JttC ball 2 years ago, but you may want to reserve judgement until after you hear him live now.

Dan, apparently you're not allowed to voice an opinion either. Maybe it's because you're a fan of music? I'm not sure what the criteria is for not being allowed to post an opinion. I thought this was a public message board, but apparently it's just MCC620's personal blog.

The name is Maria and just like you are able to tell those of us who like what Steve is doing that we are drinking cool aid etc. I can tell those who have not been to a show, that i think they are wrong since I've been to several. Sorry my bitter comment struck such a nerve.

So many "vocal experts" on this forum who base all their information on youtubes taken with cell phones and flip cameras. They make all kinds of concessions for Arnel's youtubes that aren't up to par, but for Steve, youtubes are the be all, end all in determining the fate of his career as a singer.
Go to a show and then critique Steve to shreds (if you still can) and I will not say a word.

Doesn't mean he's not a favorite of mine. He is definitely a favorite, but I prefer his recordings to his shows.

Anyone who collects bootlegs know this to be true. Augeri was in the raw as early as 2001. The band should have done something about it then (maybe get Deen to sing?). Steve's high range is still pretty fried. That's ok. He still puts on a good show and I'll still go see him and buy his new material. Still a better frontman than Arnel.

See, I don't see that at all. I think Arnel's a good front guy. Augeri was way to feminine and laid back for me. Arnel's brings a lot of energy to that. The thing that isn't good for Arnel is what he says, but as far as moving around, getting the crowd into it, he's great. Jagger never says anything good, but he's a good front guy. Arnel just needs a bit of help with that. Augeri was just too laid back. Perry was a great front guy.

The times I saw him in 2002, he was anything but laid back. From 2004, it was obvious that he (and the band) were just phoning it in.

Jagger says hardly anything to the audience.
Bono says stuff, but it's usually some kind of political sermon.
Perry didn't say a lot either.

Yet all of these guys command the stage and get the crowd into it. Arnel's the same way. Saying "This song is from this album" or "How ya doing" or the DOPEY "Somebody Scream" crap that is meant for a biker bar doesn't make you a good front guy. Moving, getting the audience into it, and getting the song across does.

I can't say what I truly want to regarding Augeri out of respect for Maria. When I lost my son a few years back, Maria was very kind and helpful to Lula and I, so anything detrimental towards Augeri must keep the lid on.

Those on this board who know me know my feelings of the guy.

I will say this though. He needs to find a new job, one outside of music, and especially singing.

I was driving around Boston with Neal Schon. We got to talking about singers and Schon said, "Perry was always in pitch and Jeff is too. Augeri was never on pitch." This coming from a guy who knows a little something about pitch. When they were playing the National Anthem on the tour in 2006, I believe, he learned O' Canada and the British Anthem the morning of the show while on the bus heading into Toronto and London respectively. Schon can't read music, so he plays be ear and is always pitch perfect. He got really perturbed that Augeri floundered all around like a fish out of water regarding pitch. He was really pissed.

Dean... if they used tapes, why wouldn't Neal suck it up and just use auto-tune to cover pitch problems? I am asking a serious question, not trying to be a dick...because I have always wondered about that.

I thought that's why they held an audition process. If SA couldn't cut it, why pick him? Neal's a dumbass.

That is one of the worst songs, and worst performances I've seen. Steve's voice was cracking like hell, and he wasn't even hitting the high notes of the song. He needs to just retire and get a new hobby. I was a HUGE fan of his with Journey, and appreciate that he gave me a chance to finally see the band for the first time, but he needs to walk away from the mic. That should be embarrassing the hell out of him to see these videos after his performances. Give it up dude! :?

   Sorry, I got a little carried away. I'm glad people still catch his shows and have a great time seeing him. I don't have any beef with that at all. I'm just very passionate about music and when I hear people going on and on about him and how great he sounds... it just drives me nuts! He was good in Journey, but I saw one of their 1st performances with him and even my wife (who is tone deaf) says "wow... he's singing out of key a lot isn't he?".

He seems like one of the nicest guys around, and I really like what he does with charities. Top notch in my book. Some of his fans are crazy as hell though, and bash you if you say ANYTHING about the guy. Steve always HAS, and always WILL have issues with his pitch. If he couldn't get it fixed with Journey, he certainly won't get it fixed for the clubs he's playing in now. He also has a very weak voice now which I'm sure is due to age and wear and tear. His vocals have been through a lot.

Maria, you have jumped on everyone here that has had anything negative to say about Steve, and you need to get over yourself. Your opinion is yours and yours alone. We ALL have them. You can state yours just like I can state mine. If you don't like reading the truth about his vocals, ignore my posts. It's your prerogative. Thanks very much!

That should be embarrassing the hell out of him to see these videos after his performances. Give it up dude! :?

If only you weren't so vague with your comments. It's nearly impossible to decipher what it is you're saying.

Just messin' witcha Jim. 8) :P 8) :D

And just to add one more thing to what Jim said...
It's important that anyone reading this thread and is offput by the blunt comments regarding Stevie's voice needs to understand, the criticism is directed exclusively at his vocal performance. Period. I'm certain there isn't a single person on this board or any other that would or could have anything derogatory or negative to say about Steve Augeri the man. Without exception, he is one of the classiest, genuine individuals you'll ever meet. He is a gentleman's gentleman and a wonderful guy. The single most often used descriptor for Stevie is "class". Just sayin'.....

That is one of the worst songs, and worst performances I've seen. Steve's voice was cracking like hell, and he wasn't even hitting the high notes of the song. well now that i know your posts are pure drivel i will ignore.....

Yay!!! Maria, I have absolutely no beef with you whatsoever. I was offended by your comment, but hell... this is a message board. I know I've pissed off many people here, and many people have pissed me off. 98% of them either send me a PM and apologize, or vice-versa. It's no big deal.

I can be blunt on here at times, and sometimes I read it the next day and think "damn, I was a little harsh there". I am a keyboardist, and you know we can be sensitive! Regardless of what you think of me, I hope you have a great day.

Please retire Steve. You helped bring Journey back to life, but man...this is embarassing. Hell of a guy, but, geez...

Ridiculous statement.

Rockindeano wrote:I was driving around Boston with Neal Schon.

Why hire him then in 1998? He must have sounded even worse than 2005 since he was out of business....doesn't make any sense...
