Ok, ok, all you jaded types, this might not be exciting for you, but this little Aussie has never even had the opportunity to go to a Journey gig, let alone actually get tickets. And I just found out my darling Ian, whom I'm going to see for the last week of September and first week of October, has bought us tickets to the Concord concert. Don't care there's no SP, no SS, don't care if they play all the standards and no deep cuts, don't care if the venue sucks or the tickets are crap (row F, far right, ground floor, so don't know what the visibility will be), don't care that there's no meet & greet, don't give a damn, because I'M FUCKING GOING TO SEE JOURNEY LIVE! Which I actually didn't think I'd ever get to do.

So, I can tick NS off the list of Great Musicians I Would Love To See Live. Not banking on ever hearing SP, which leaves Steve Smith and Greg Rollie in my wish-list. Gods of Rock'n'Roll, are you listening? Because I'll be back in the Bay Area from November 22 to January 24, if you're in the mood to be generous.

Can you tell I'm excited yet?

I'm so excited for you. I wish I was going to that show just to see your excitement!!

Hopefully, someone can help you out with things.

You did read the interviews with Neal and Arnel? Sounds like Journey may show up in your neck of the woods. I'm currently saving my $$$ hoping to make a show or 3 down under!!

If they do make it to Australia, it's very unlikely they'll make Adelaide - Sydney, maybe Melbourne. Given that for international acts here, tickets start at $100-$120 for the terrible seats and go up, with a $300 flight thrown in on top of that, waaaaay out of my budget. Assuming they even get here; I suspect an Australian gig wouldn't be a big money spinner.

But I'm going to see them anyway! ::does the happy dance again::

Congratulations!! I know you don't know me but I really am genuinely excited for you. And I share R&R's sentiments exactly - I wish I was going to be there just to watch you watching them - for the first time live! I'm sure you've heard a million times that Journey live is a much different experience than watching the videos and listening to the albums, but it's true. There's an energy and a feeling like no other I've experienced when the house lights go out and the crowd comes alive and you know you're literally seconds away from from the hearing/seeing your favorite band live and in person for the first time in your life. And if you happen to be close enough to the stage to hear Deen counting it off as he hits his sticks together, "1, 2, 3, 4,..." And with that, the venue is instantly bathed in the bright, colored lights on the stage and the still roaring crowd becomes even louder as the sound of the intro to SW begins, and with the excitement level at an all time high for you, you get goosebumps when you hear Arnel sing the first line and you look around to see that everyone in the venue is singing along as loud and as proud as they can be. :D  it's a awesome experience. Good for you!

You'll have to make certain you take the time to share with us your experience!

I felt the same way when I found out I was going to the Toronto show! You will not be disappointed, and probably less than me anyway since they've added a couple more songs to their set. It was a damn good show and I couldn't care less who was singing, either. Arnel has the goods and he tries. Gotta give credit where it's due. It was a show that's still fresh in my mind. I'd give anything to see them over and over again. The same for Foreigner.

Welsh friend of mine tells a story about being in an upmarket cocktail lounge in Cardiff, complaining about how her Mum starts telling stories from her groupie days in the 60s and 70s every time she gets drunk. Just after she whined 'she's sooooo embarrasing telling me all about throwing her panties at Tom Jones!' this deep voice from the next booth said 'That's how I know I'm getting old, it's their mums who are throwing the panties.' Turns out Tom Jones was in the next booth, having a drink with some friends, and had heard every word.

Are you kidding? I have the outfit planned, Ian is knocking off work at noon so we have plenty of time to get there without rushing (and maybe a little romantic canoodling on the way) and I keep getting random grins when I remember I'M GONNA SEE JOURNEY TOMORROW!!

Dontcha just love it when random acts of kindness seem to land on the right person for the right reasons! Very, very cool indeed. Hopefully you're able to keep your wits about yourself well enough to actually take it all in and have the ability to remember the event tomorrow and the tomorrows after that. Good for you!! Hope it's monumental and epic!

Cheers!

Concord is a great outdoor venue for a concert. If your seats are too far to one side to have a good view or sound, just move up to the lawn. The sound is usually great there and with the big screens, you really won't miss much of the action. If you are still in the area, they are playing at Shoreline the following weekend also. Plus you will be seeing two bands playing at there home town/base (Night Ranger and Journey). That usually makes for some cool guest appearances. Have a blast!!!!

$1,700 to see my Ian - worth every damn cent. That he bought tickets to see Journey as present for me just makes the trip sweeter, but it's still all about spending time with my beloved. If it had been a choice between Ian and Journey, the band wouldn't even have had a second thought.
