This is NOT personal. I have nothing against Steve. I just have a problem with blind followers of ANYTHING, denying problems when they are clearly on display.

For all I know, the guy could sound GREAT right now. I just have too many vids at my disposal proving the opposite.

Go to a show. Youtube never gives the true picture. Rock is not about some light in the loafers guy being pitch perfect (even with Journey)

Now why would I pay money to watch someone sing with a cracky, off pitch voice?

I am not about the "concert experience". I am about the talent.

Are you serious with that question Knox? I mean is it as open-ended as it sounds meaning you've yet to hear a single clip of Steve sounding great? Or, do you mean a recent clip of the song in question? 'Cause, if the former is true, get ready to be bombarded with clips providing proof positive that SA has/had the ability to sound incredible.

Recent clips. I have heard him sound pretty good in the past. I always thought he sounded thin and hoarse, even when he first arrived in Journey. But at least he was on pitch and didn't crack every other line.

I'm not saying this is perfect (rock shouldn't be). You tell me you couldn't enjoy this live? Free show at a Casino from a former lead singer of Journey for free.

Steve is playing weekend warrior and playing a far more interesting setlist than Journey is.

vids from his time with journey? back in 2006 and before?

this is solid in my opinion, but i was there for it and know it sounded better than this and i was rocking with 10,000 other people who were having a blast and loving every minute of his show. The people who run the Hamden Arts Council were blown away by the reception Steve and his band got.

Friggin killer soulful delivery...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ldp_KWe9gao

American Idol is the feminization of rock music. It's also a lame fake version of Star Search, where they at least showcase BANDS not karaoke crooners.

Did you listen? That dudes got some serious good vocals, refreshing old school soulful sound........amongst all the pop crap you get for the most part on those shows.

SEE!? Even with crappy sound, you can tell his voice sounds better here than most clips I have seen.

It's NOT the crowd, or the Youtube, or venue. Steve is not cracking here, he seems to be in good form.

For this video, I GLADLY stand corrected.

Good find.

I kinda figured that's what you meant. Ane yeah, his voice is not the crystal clear, sharp as a tack type. He's always had that scratchy/breathy/husky... whatever you want to call it quality to it - even with Tall Stories but that in and of itself is certainly not a bad thing, unless of course, the scratchyness, et al is due to destroying the vocal chords through abuse and insufficient care and then it's a different story.
Sorry to jump into your conversation with Maria. Your question just puzzled me there for a sec.

Maria, he sounds pretty good here!

Another good find. He sounds more relaxed, except on the higher notes.

I always thought he should stick to the lower registers, as in Kiss Me Softly. His voice was spot on in that song.

Exactly.

All this youtube, A.I. stuff infuriates me.

I can appreciate a good vocalist, but the obsession of pitch perfect replications of old tracts is annoying as fuck. Crank up the amps and lets rock.

When an original singer leaves a band, truthfully I want to hear what the musicians can do with a different voice, not a clone. Although I really do understand not wanting to deviate too much from a certain sound.

Any guy that religiously watches American Idol is a ************************** (Censored).
