Great interview Andrew, I loved the way you were able to get Mr. Perry to open up and talk freely with you about his time with Journey be it good, bad or painful. :)

Great job Andrew. Only complaint, is I wish you would have asked him about releasing more old concerts on dvd or bluray. File that question for next time!

So, now that it's a done deal Andrew, what was on the "do not ask list"?

I need to clarify this. There was no real imposition of "do not ask" questions.

I was merely asked to keep the interview focussed on what it was set up for - the promotion of the GH2 etc... It was only supposed to be a 20min interview. So once I'd covered those necessary things, I was able to engage Steve enough to broaden the interview and ask a few more probing questions. He obliged without any hesitation.

You did a fine job. Of course there are a ton of things that could have been asked but if you had, the interview would have been over.

I think most of us know that it was the best interview with SP in years. Well done!

I think you certainly got him to open up more on the subject, more so than any other interviewer has been able to do, BUT, Journey is at the top of their game right now with Pineda out front. This year's 5th highest grossing concert tour, a couple of singles that actually charted and let's not forget the remarkable success of the platinum selling Revelation CD/DVD package in 2008. So, I think a question on Pineda and the band's current suceess would have been very relevant. I find it hard to believe that Perry has never listened to any of Journey's new material or watched any of the DVDs or caught any their appearances on network TV. Especially the Oprah appearance, where he actually wrote in a comment.

Perry said he has never heard the other two singers. How could he expand on something he has never heard?

I have never believed that comment on Oprah was from Perry. I can't imagine that he really talks in Journey song titles.

And it is entirely possible that he has never heard Augeri or Pineda. Unless you are looking for stuff from the newer lineups, it is quite easy to miss it. At least in my area, it never gets airplay. Except for what I have seen on You Tube, I have never heard Arnel sing.

That's cool. I figured there was a "Thou shalt not ask" list of questions, and since you didn't ask them, there'd be no reason you couldn't share THAT info.

Right on with this observation! He was obviously coached by his handlers in advance of the interview in regards to JSS, someting I attempted to imply in my post in the Perry on Soto thread.

"now I've not heard the other two."

Now, unless Andrew SOMEHOW got the transcription wrong, which would have meant he somehow replaced a "d" with the letters "i" and "v" ( OK) after the apsotrophe in the contraction after the word "now" then Mr perry did contradict himself there.

I think you might need to go back and re-read the interview.

Andrew wrote:One of those singers is actually one of my best buddies in the whole world, Jeff Scott Soto.

Steve Perry wrote:Uh huh? By the way, of all three singers – now I've not heard the other two, but I know in his own right, with his own music, with his own songwriting ability, this guy's a very talented guy! And of all three maybe they should have stuck with him and continued to write music, but that might have required that they let him in emotionally a little more? (laughing)

I think you guys are trying to create controversy that just isn't there. None of you guys knew who Steve Augeri or Arnel Pineda were prior to their joining Journey. Neither did Perry, but apparently, he did know of Jeff before he joined the band. He is speaking on terms of knowledge of these singers prior to their stints in Journey with him plainly stating "but I know in his own right, with his own music, with his own songwriting ability, this guy's a very talented guy!" Jeff had his own music, own band(s), and has been in the music biz for years prior to ever being considered for Journey. I mean, you can imply "coaching by his handlers" all day long if you like, but it's only going to make you look like some obsessed conspiracy theorist. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, it's time to just let it go and put to bed all of these harsh feelings toward anybody who was ever associated with the band. This stuff happened 13 years ago between the band members. Perry had his reasons, Schon and Cain had theirs. It's over. It's done with. Just move on like what these guys have done. Be happy rooting for the new lineup.

Maybe you need to re-read what I wrote. I didn't say Perry brought up JSS out of the blue, I'm saying I believe he and Lora had a reponse canned in case Andrew brought him up.
