Scary visitor in my house

My cat Groucho was trying to get into a cabinet something fierce. I was thinking a mouse and let him get into it. He came back out and was pawing at something by his water dish. Dan reached down and saw A COPPERHEAD BABY! He yelled, "Snake!" So I said get the cats away and you get away. I got a pole to hold his head down and a long butcher knife and killed it! This was in my house, in my kitchen no less! What if we had been reaching in for some canned goods!

Talk about scary incident! ( Copperheads are poisonous reptiles!)

My other cat Daisy brought me the mouse it killed. Thank goodness for my cats!

**shivers....** Bwaaaaaah! I HATE Snakes! Call me a pussy if you will but I just can't deal with them at all. They're soooooooooo creepy and gross. And they say that the babies deliver the biggest punch in terms of venom because they haven't learned to regulate it or something like that. Thank God you nor your cats weren't bitten!

Here's a quick story right back atchya...

Years ago when my youngest daughter was around 2 or 3, my wife and I were getting dinner ready while the kids watched TV in the family room which is adjacent to the kitchen. A couple of minutes had gone by since I had seen my youngest and since I didn't hear her either, I went to investigate. As I came out of the kitchen and rounded the corner to head down the hall, I could see into the bathroom which was straight down the hall at the end. I could see she was playing with and talking to something but I couldn't tell what. When I got to her, I could see she was holding a Brown Recluse spider (aka Fiddler spider. Not deadly but very venomous nonetheless and if bitten will cause excruciating pain and intense swelling at the affected area. "OH MY GOD!" I yelled which apparently is the secret phrase which enables time travel for my wife because I no sooner uttered the words and she was there INSTANTLY! I knocked it out of my daughter's hand and stepped on it. What's that old Jim Stafford song..... "I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes"

Check out your house real well for any small openings and cracks and seal them up. Now that the weather is getting cooler, they come in looking for warmth. We've had 3 snakes in our house this fall, one large and 2 babies. Fortunately, just grass snakes but still freaked me out. I don't want any creepy crawly things in my house!

This past Summer, it was minding its own business, sunning itself on our brick patio...
...and they're the equivalent of an earthworm....a VERY BIG one.

I still screamed bloody murder, ran into the sunroom, and wouldn't come out until Mark removed it.

I am a country gal Nora, either you kill them or they kill you. Unfortunately I had practice because they would nearly be in biting range when we were playing in our yard as a kid. Still creeps me out!

Poisonous ones are the only ones that keep me shivering!

There is a doctor that lives in our town that has been bitten 7 times in her house and yard! Seems they built on a nest of them.

Yes they do. The black mamba is one snake I would not want to tangle with. Don't you have those in Aussie land? Some of their snakes you have little to no chance to live after a bite. At least I live behind our hospital by a few blocks. I am going back upstairs!

I put pressure on the neck area, pressing the snake down, then cut his head off. Now yours have a longer biting range, and are much more deadly. I would learn running skills.

You see why I laugh at girls who climb on tables over harmless creepy crawlies. After a few copperheads and water moccasins a tiny harmless bug or a baby mouse is no big deal.

Most snakes try to avoid contact or being seen at all. Their venom is for killing for their food and snakes with fangs usually eat only twice a week with field mice and other small rodents as their delicacy of choice. Living & growing up in florida the only snake that scares the living shit outta me is the water moccasin. The motherfuckers will go out of their way to try to bite you and they don't give a warning if your near them like a rattlesnake. By the way, the Black Mamba is native to africa & parts of asia. Faster than a speeding bullet, they can get up to 12 feet (some reported as long a 16) and have a strike range of 6 fucking feet. Snakes, scare the shit out of everyone, so don't feel like the lone ranger.

I live in West Texas and as the weather gets colder, the rattlesnakes start moving. Very common for folks to find them in their yards around here and occasionally in their houses. Scares the living shit out of me. My daughter left a rubber toy in the middle of the living room the other night--I stepped on it in the dark and imagined a snake. SCREAMED like a little girl. Call me a pussy, I don't care. If God had not wanted us to be afraid of them, he should not have called them snakes!!!!!!!
