Acoustic Journey Set w/ Chalfant

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Sun Nov 06, 2011 1:29 am

Even tuned down, this guy pulls off the classics with a credibility and richness few can match.
His time has obviously passed, but damn if he wasn't the right guy to carry on with.

TNC, I'm with you brother. Kevin is a great singer. Couple his singing ability with his song writing skills, I think Journey could have carried on well in the 1995 time frame. I seen Chalfant and Journey at the IL state fair back in the late 90's/early 00's. I enjoyed Chalfant's show of Journey songs better than Journey. Kevin is the real deal.

Yeah, Chalfant was the one true heir to Perry's legacy imho. Missed opportunity and quite possibly the biggest of Journey's many mistakes.

I'd like to see that whore with the tambourine in less clothing. She fills out those jeans nicely though. :D

Chalfant sounds really good here, especially under than ideal conditions with a country band backing him.

Wow she does have a pristine body. She looks like she stands slightly hunched over, however, like she's been doggie-styled way too many times. Can't blame her for putting those assests to good use if that's the case.

Agreed.

Been a big Chalfant fan since the first Storm cd. Should have been him after Perry's ROR cd. Should have been him when they tried with Rolie again before TBF and should have been him after TBF!

I really can't say enough good things about Chalfant's voice. He didn't endure the wear 'n tear Perry did, of course, but his live performances match any of Perry's best IMHO. He's levels up from Augeri and Soto and possibly even Arnel.

No, I said he's possibly levels up from Arnel.
What I mean by that is performance-wise Chalfant sounds as good as Perry ever did, but didn't have to endure the rigorous touring, so I can't say Chalfant is as good or better than Perry all things considered. Likewise, I'm hesitant to say he's considerably better than Arnel.

I see. Valid analysis. You know how I feel about Arnel's live skills, so I can't say I'm with you on the substance of your feelings. But I understand how you're looking at things.

If I'm not mistaken, the brunt of your problem w/ Arnel comes from his diction and lack of polish, not his actual pipes or range.
Chalfant is definitely a superior singer in most, if not all areas, than Arnel, but I'm not sure I'd say he's a lot better. Arnel floored me in '08 and '09, and was still much better live this year than Augeri and Soto were when I saw them.

Exactly after the first 20 seconds I was like hell with the singing when in the tambourine solo..that would be a hell of alot more interesting than wathcing Neal blow on his Guitar strings for 45 seconds.

What's with the introduction of "Kevin Chalfant formerly of Journey"? At what point was this guy in Journey? Did I sleep through a few years?

Another tip for Chalfant...

It's not "Restless hearts, wondering where I am lost with out you". It's "Restless hearts, sleep alone tonight..sending all my love along the wire".

Hell, you'd think if a guy is going to sing Journey songs that he'd at least have the correct lyrics figured out!

Maybe he changed it up to suit his voice.

Been saying this for years. A real "what could have been" feeling with Chalfant and Rolie back in the fold. Biggest mistake. But now a 15+ yr old mistake.

Not sure why anyone would ever change lyrics to "suit his voice". Sounded to me as though he simply had no clue what the lyrics were. I must be in the minority on Chalfant. I've heard many say that he's a dead ringer for Perry. I don't think he sounds close to Perry. Perhaps he did 20 years ago. I wouldn't know, because I don't know much about the guy. I actually think Pineda has a far better voice than this guy has. Based on the video I watched (which isn't necessarily a fair barometer), there is nothing remotely spectacular about his voice.

I couldn't agree more. This thread has left me so puzzled in what people are hearing that makes him such a doppelganger. I think KC has a great voice, and while I'm sure he's a great guy and I mean no disrespect, he leaves quite a bit to be desired in the "front man" looks department. Arnel doesn't fit the front man, either, where looks are concerned, but I think Arnel sings circles around Kevin.

Seriously, Gid, Arnel has the whole vocal arsenal. KC is great and I admire his talent, but he can't touch Arnel with anything except diction.

Arnel is a better vocalist. He might not have a lot of other gifts but he can sing. The accent thing is a non-issue here. If Kevin was getting judged on singing in Tagalog, the shoe would be on the other foot obviously.

I just don't know why people feel this dude is all that and a bag of chips. I'd take someone like Tony Harnell or David Glen Eisley over Chalfant any day of the week.
