Stuck in the '80s
I guess now I can officially say the words I've been waiting six years and 250 episodes of our podcast to say: "Just got off the phone with Steve Perry..."

Stuck in the '80s Just got the green light to use it as a podcast. Though at one hour long, you'll definitely get an edited version.

(Above statements are on the ...Stuck in the 80s FB page)

He just did the interview today. I think he meant that once he has it ready, he will post the podcast.

Lora, do you know of an actual ROR concert that is out there that was taped during the ROR tour?

I know they taped part of the Mountain Aire show for the Girl Can't Help It video and the footage for the CBS special. They taped some full shows for their own use - watching them later to critique how things were going, but those were not done with the intent of ever releasing them. Herbie let us borrow one of those tapes once when we were hosting a Steve Perry travel package and we played it for fans on that package. The first three songs were audio only (no video) and there was no audience sound or footage throughout the video. It was kind of eerie sounding with no crowd response. I have never seen a full ROR show that I would think they would feel comfortable releasing, though.

Not sure I'll post the entire Steve Perry transcript. It's incredibly long. But I will be posting audio of it.

Stuck in the '80s
The more I think about releasing a transcript of Steve Perry vs. just releasing the audio, I lean toward "just audio." Reading what Steve says isn't NEARLY as illuminating as the way he says it. Trust me.

Stuck in the '80s It will be an interview-only show -- no seggies. But it still needs an introduction and wrap-up. Hopefully we'll have it ready on Friday.

Stuck in the '80s Too late. It's been edited and shortened somewhat, per agreement with Perry's camp. But all the great stuff remains.

Stuck in the '80s I may make the unedited version available at some point.

Stuck in the '80s How about I release the podcast when we get 5,400 friends here at Stuck in the '80s? Come on, Perry fans. Get your friends signed up!

NOVEMBER 18, 2011
Interview: Steve Perry talks new music, old friends and the legacy of Journey

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/80s/conte ... cy-journey

Steve Perry says he's happy. And the former Journey frontman wants to make sure all his fans know it.

"If I could tell my fans anything right now, it would be that I want them to know I am happy," Perry told Stuck in the '80s in an epic interview to promote the release of Journey's Greatest Hits Vol. 2. "I was happy being in front of them every night. They lifted me to places I could not go without them. My voice was actually their voice because I had to go get it because they wanted to hear it."

In an hour-long interview, Steve and I talked about touring the country during the early days of Journey ("We never stopped. A day off wasn’t a day off; it was a travel day. That's how you did it back then. It was liking running for public office."), his feelings about Neal Schon ("Neal and I have had our problems over the years. We probably don't like each other very much, because we had a lot of time together. But I know we love each other...") and even touch on his relationship with the girl who inspired Oh Sherrie ("The truth is that it's hard to navigate a relationship when you’re in the midst of such a ride.")

An edited version of the interview is finally online in podcast form. Click here to download the podcast. Or click here to get all our podcasts for free via iTunes.

I'm glad SP is doing these interviews. Great, great insight into what went on back in those days and what's going on now.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

really good interview... love the part where Perry talks about having the right to be "not what be he used to be"... the baseball analogy was a perfect way to frame it.

Agree this needs to be heard... not read...

Excellent...love hearing he is in a happy place! I've said it before..."he gives good interview". Some funny stuff, some heartfelt, some technical stuff...love hearing about the beginnings, the touring experience - the hunger to be the best one can be & give it your all...he did it...Journey did it. And, 30 years later the music is still making a HUGE impact on people's hearts...amazing! (altho' I am a little concerned about Tom Cruise singing in the movie) :?
Guess SP has to still arrive at the decision to record and/or release those new songs...would be happy to hear him, but if not then that is okay...he should always know his real fans love him & support him. He has really been a GREAT representative of the music we love - always holding it in respect and awe in every interview. :)
