And This Is Why I Hope God Comes Quickly

Postby scarygirl » Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:30 am

I honestly don't see how the world can survive much longer. I really don't.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/17/opinion/kristof-the-face-of-modern-slavery.html

A couple of NYT posters accuse Kristof of sensationalizing the pain and humiliation of a sexual assualt. No, he is describing what the act actually entails. The truth needs to be told. People's hearts need to change. The punishment needs to fit the extent of the crime. This is not acceptable behavior. Why do we allow these things to perpetuate? People scream about poverty as if that is the reason for the evil that men do. If only if there was no more poverty. If that was truly the case, why the Sandusky's of the world? He doesn't look too impoverished to me. People's hearts need to change.

The world can continue because I had nothing to do with any of this. Pass me a beer.

We need a real life Dexter to clean up the mess.

When you ignore evil...it thrives...and THAT is about as evil as you are going to get.

Complacency of abuse like this, and the Sandusky crimes and the general "it's not my problem" is exactly why people are able to get away with it.

The soft pornification of our culture isn't helping matters any. It gets fed into our subconscious that things aren't that bad. If nothing is really that bad is it any wonder it is being perpetuated onto our most vulnerable?

You're absolutely right. Look at the parental guide to Twilight: Breaking Dawn. This thing is rated PG-13.

It comes out of the subconscious that things are't that bad but we don't believe it. Instead we believe stories and wonder why we live in fear when there is nothing to fear.

These things bother me for a 13 year old, which is what PG-13 suggests is appropriate for that age.

Bella and Edward have sex in bed.

Bella goes to the beach, where she takes off her clothes and goes into the water, where they have sex again.

Jacob insults Paul by saying 'So you don't have another damn place to stay, you hairy motherfucker?'

Automatically, I always thought the word "Fuck" in any shape or form got a rated "R" rating for language. Also, a birth of a demon or banging in the Ocean PROBABLY would merit a rated "R" rating as well. I've heard some fucked up things about this movie. Even more fucked up than their fans that have been camping out since a few hours ago. What a world we live in.

Great point Stuart. These things need to be talked about. The fact that they weren't talked about at the apex of their "time," is the reason why we are talking about them now.

Oh Button the Fuck Up already! Tell me why our President had to take out a 2million dollar(USD) insurance policy for his visit to your "Island of Poison," errr, Australia! :D Seriously, he did! Guess we are going to install 30K troops on the northern part of the state down there. Something about Iran I believe.

It's the conservative mindset that sex is bad and dirty that is the reason for this. You see it in every culture that makes sex out to be something ugly. Take muslim countries for example. Women are forced to wear clothes that completely cover their body to not tempt the men to rape them. You can't actually be executed in Iran if you're a virgin, so a prisoner guard forces her to marry him, rape her and then chop her head off or stone her to death. Lets not forget the great holy catholic church which is basically just a huge gay pedo-ring - and they even get away with it.

The only solution is information and openness. Just remember though, that all this is just a minority. Around 21000 kids die daily of poverty, hunger and easily prevented diseases. What a great God, huh?

It's not the conservative mindset...I know very few people who think sex is bad or dirty. There are some things that should be kept private but that has nothing to do with anything being bad or dirty.

Are you serious that the word "motherfucker" appears in a PG-13 film?! That's crazy. That should certainly be an automatic R rating.

That said, I think it's ultimately a parent's job to decide what's right for their kids. If I had kids they wouldn't be seeing this film if I had to drag them away from the theater.

I copied and pasted that right off of IMDB's parental guide for "Breaking Dawn", but now if you go look, it's not there. Our niece went to see it, and she's 14, and she said she didn't hear that said in the movie.

I had always thought the F word was an automatic R rating, but it's not the case anymore.

A couple of NYT posters accuse Kristof of sensationalizing the pain and humiliation of a sexual assualt. No, he is describing what the act actually entails. The truth needs to be told.
