Your misperception is that Dio's career started with Black Sabbath.

Before Black Sabbath, he was in the first incarnation of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.

Before Rainbow, he was in Elf.

And before Elf, he was in many other bands.

Dio goes WAY back, with a career that eclipses many other rockers.'

Vocally, Dio blows away Springsteen (who isn't even rated as a "vocalist," with that gravel he's always gargling).

I certainly give the nod to Bruce for doing it for far longer. Bruce can certainly sing, but he never had a voice that made me just have to know who was behind the lyrics the first time I ever heard him the way Perry did (for me).
