If I was forced to sing the shitty material off of that record, I'd be doing swan dives off the stage too, with the hopes of ending it all. The stage is about the equivalent of a 2 story fall for Arnel.

Gravity wins again!!! Can't decide which gravity victory was better for my ears. Arnel's or Ace Freley's?

Stupid ass. I guess he had no idea that the end of the stage was near? Yeah, great great front man.

However, this comment reminded me of Dan.

Pineda actually hurt himself pretty bad when that happened. If not for his arm absorbing a lot of the force he could have easily cracked his skull. He was in pain the remainder of the tour. A six foot drop to the concrete onto your head/shoulders isn't exactly something you can just walk off.

The thing that's surprising to me with so many performers seemingly walking right off into la-la land is that OSHA and the entity that oversees specifically stage riggers (they take this stuff very seriously! Becoming a certified rigger damn near requires an engineering degree - seriously!) has very strict and concise guidelines regarding every aspect of the stage with the edges, pits, and perimeters having some of the most technical and rigid rules. For instance, these areas not only have to be illuminated by reflective tape/paint within so many feet of them, the level of illumination itself is specified and must meet its own set of guidelines. Yet, for some reason, these accidents are happening more frequently.

Like Don said above, Arnel's stroll into the abyss was an outright header. He clearly had no clue he was even close to an edge. Those kinds of falls where you don't even realize you're falling until you're actually ..... well, falling can be the worst.
Think about a time when you've run into the dishwasher door when it was down. In most cases, you probably realized it was down at some point during your stride and even though you made contact with it, you were able to at least make some adjustment in how hard you actually connected with it.
Now, think about those times when you connected with it full-stride, completely oblivious to its presence and proximity to your shin! Even if you don't end up actually falling down, that particular pain experienced by a blast to the shin is a special kind of hurt all its own!

Poor guy.... bruised bones, bruised muscles and definitely bruised ego. Hope he's alright.

They should put mats around the stage floor like they do at the WWE.

It isn't that easy to see the edge of the stage when the lights flash. I am amazed at the reactions here though. I never find it funny when anyone gets hurt. He is a very nice guy, and I would not wish that on him.

In all seriousness, why don't they put protective mats around the stage in case someone falls off? To me, it's stupid not to have something like that.

Well, in a perfect world where the guidelines set forth by the governing entity of stages, platforms, rigging, etc. are followed precisely and no mitigating factors enter into the equation (glare, steam/smoke, lighting effects, flashes, etc.) the redundant striping at 36" and 18" from the edge which, if applied with the correct reflective sensitivity will act as a safety net and a beacon alerting individuals of the danger that looms beyond that point. But, like I said, that's in a perfect world. You show me reflective or even glow paint that illuminates brighter than the 2500 watt spotlights you're looking into and have been for however long, and I'll be very impressed.

That said, I really don't think mats are a practical solution but that's just my opinion. The better thing in my mind would be to establish "landmarks" (stage monitors, Jon's rig, etc.) during sound-check when the house lights are on or if it's outdoor the sun will be out when you can clearly see your "work environment" then use them as your own safety nets so long as you don't go past them, i.e., the stage monitors or Jon's rig, etc.

I'm a complete asshole and I laughed my ass off. Why don't you swend wittle Arnel a blanky and some tissue?

Fuck me, the guy knows the stage! He spends 3 hours on that goddamned thing daily. He ought to know where the end is! Now, why they don't have a rail there is beyond me. Pineda could have told a stagehand at soundcheck he wanted one, and it would be installed by that night's show. He didn't, and it wasn't. The fact he fell was hilarious. Every frontman has fallen at one time or another. I am glad he is ok, but stop the fucking crying and concern over the little fucker. The stage is all of 5 feet tall. It's motlike he toppled off the Space needle Steve. And Ginger, please. This mommy love for Pineda is fucking sickening. So what, he's a nice guy? I'm a nice guy. Even that fuck GI Jim is a nice guy(I would be too if I drank coffee all day for a living)...just stop with the Journeymusic shit...wanna be his mommy, go visit him in the Phillipines.

This was awhile ago. In fact, back in August. Me and S2M had backstage Meet and Greet pass's and Arnel came in with a huge limp. We found out he fell offstage the night before but he was alright. Kicked ass in Pittsburgh.
