But you're not smarter than me.....I stayed home in my nice warm bed and slept in!

While your brain cells atrophied, lol! Next time, arise from your inert stupor and come play ball with us in the game of life, will ya?

One of the local news channels did a story on it and pointed out that Best Buy only had 16 of the TVs that everyone wanted so "if you're not already in line, you've already missed out."

It's no surprise, yet still amazes me. There is not one thing in Best Buy that I would camp out 24 hours to get a hot deal on, and probably not even if it were free. I'd be too ashamed to be seen. Dangit, that reminds me... the camera was pointed right at me in the checkout line when they were doing a segment for the news.

The way I see it is, if one is patient enough, that TV that you camped out for, maced people to get to, and got the "great deal" for on Black Friday will be a fraction of that Black Friday cost in about a couple of years. Heck, it might even be marked down even more just after Christmas.

Like someone said earlier, I think people become slaves to their children. Their kids want that new gaming system or that new smartphone and parents are stupid enough to go out there and fight for it on black Friday.

It's amazing how much stress is involved in this. I decided several years back not to let the holidays stress me out, because I realized how miserable I became right around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with bad memories - especially separations and divorces in my family. The holidays make a lot of people miserable, most likely from the stress of all the heavy expectations of family, or even social expectations if you feel you have to keep up with the Joneses.

I make sure I relax around the holidays, refuse to rush for anybody (which makes me fashionably late to most get-togethers, lol), and shop for gifts on my own terms. Works out well!

Sounds like me. I've found that if families must buy gifts on Christmas, they should draw names or either just buy a gift here and there throughout the year. I'm not good with the latter, but I've been pushing for name drawing in my family for awhile now! It's so much less stressful and usually everyone winds up getting a really nice present.

I make many gifts for my family, it is more personal that way, and they love what I make. What I cannot make I buy. I don't feel the need to rush out and buy the latest gadget on the market though. We are too absorbed by gadgetry as it is. I give gift certificates to favorite restaurants, movies, and books. I try to give gifts that would involve time with people they love. Or just quiet personal time with a good book. (Those whom I know what books they want).
