If so, any particular brand/model of cable-amplifier?

Those of you who have good knowledge about TV settings, how do you suggest that I adjust the settings on my TV? How should I adjust the color, sharp, contrast, tint settings?
I know that I have to set those things to my own preferences. But can you give me a starting point from which to work with the settings?

Electroline makes the best cable amplifiers on the market. I've used one at every house I own with superb results. The flat panels in my house that don't use a cable box are completely unwatchable (due to snow) without the amp. With the amp, they are crystal clear. Usually, with a cable box of some sort, you shouldn't be running into those signal problems. Does that model have the THX mode or no?

John - are you a cable or satellite guy? Sounds like the former. I'm heavily considering DirecTV when I move into a house next year (my apartment makes getting dishes a pain in the ass). Obviously I'm mainly interested in the sports packages. Anyway, I'm well aware of the content. But, are the outage problems with satellite as bad as some people would have you believe? I get my fair share of rain/wind/snow here, and if satellite really goes out all the time because of weather, I can live without that. Some people have told me they have no problems.
So is the satellite-weather issue a problem of yesteryear, a boogieman like the plasma screen burn-in, or is it real?

If one is a huge NFL fan and their team is not in their market area, I'd have to disagree about choosing DishNetwork.

For the same exact reason that you claim to love Dish. TiVo has the best interface on the planet. Nothing else out there comes close.

If I was going to get an LCD model, I would have bought a Samsung. And like you mentioned, it would have been cheaper. I was tempted to go that route.
But I watch a lot of sports and action movies, and everything that I was reading on tech websites said that Plasmas are better for sports and movies because the picture doesn't blur as much during fast movement, and that the colors are better with a Plasma.
All of the reviews that I read said that Panasonic makes the best Plasmas now that Pioneer stopped making them.
So, based on what I read in many, many reviews from several different websites, I would suggest that if someone wanted an LCD, that they should get a Samsung. But that if they want a Plasma, Panasonic is the way to go at this time.
