Andrew vs S2M

....Not so sure about this move. Andreas Eklund IS/WAS HOS. All signs point to me skipping this release.

Who's gonna reply to this post besides Kgdjpubs? And Andrew telling me I don't know what I'm talking about....

haha.....losing all cool points by actually having their albums. Definitely one of the more original bands out there, which is saying a lot as formulaic as the melodic scene has become recently. Replacing Eklund is going to be a tall task indeed. One could make the same comment with Gotthard going on without Steve Lee, although the circumstances aren't the same.

np: Magnum - Wild Angels....it's taken 5 albums, but Tony Clarkin has finally learned how to write massive choruses again!

I heard some of the up coming songs from the new cd and nothing really grabbed me, and it sounded like novak was pushing his voice's limits, but HOS's last cd was not a very good one at all, i didnt like 1 song from it and i have liked all their other releases.

I'd love to see that. They at least have the ability to get to that level. They have to be the most consistent band out there at the moment and simply incapable of making a bad cd.

Still not convinced the new Mecca cd is anywhere near worth giving that rating to.

Gotthard do have it in them...will be interesting to hear.

As for Mecca....it's a long grower...I've had tunes for 12 months and final mster for 6, so I had plenty of time to live with it.

I liked that one a lot. It's a bit more of a throwback to the more straight-ahead rock sound of the first 3 albums, and certainly continues the modernized sound from Domino Effect, but I thought it was a pretty strong album overall. Just don't like the songs, I take it?

That one gets underrated a bit. I think Lipservice edges it by a little bit, but it's one of my favorites also. Still haven't warmed to Long Way Down and, to a lesser extent, No Tomorrow though.

Been listening to Open a bit recently. Wrote it off for a long time, but if you take it as a pop album and forget the "rock band" part, it's much better than I had it pegged for.

and here's the most recent one for me on cd length....probably slightly biased in favor of rock material as it is mostly listened to while driving...

1. Shangri La
2. Come Along
3. Top of the World
4. I Wonder
5. Still I Belong to You
6. Eagle
7. Got to Be Love
8. Cupid Arrow
9. Domino Effect
10. Let It Be
11. Break Away
12. Unconditional Faith
13. Letter to a Friend
14. Sister Moon
15. Anytime Anywhere
16. Can’t Stop
17. I’m On My Way

There's some stuff that's criminally underrepresented...ie Father is that Enough

haha.....I told you it was the car-driving compilation, and that usually involves long trips and late nights. It probably gets heavier on the rock side with each new album (or did :() with the albums going heavier. I could just as easy make a compilation of the softer side of the band (Hurry, Let it Rain, Where is Love When It's Gone, What Am I, Father..., Angel, etc).

I think HoS is better. At least with Andreas Eklund, they had by far the better singer. Never really cared for Hess' voice even though the backing vox were good. Don't remember much at all about Emerald Rain except that they had HS helping them a lot--although the cds are probably laying around here somewhere. Been years since I listened to them.

I remember liking the 2nd one better. Been years since I've heard either one though, so that may say something..... There's a lot of those cds actually. Go for the good review, acquire it, then decide after the fact if it lives up to expectations. It's much, much easier these days.

Secnd one is better produced and smoother.....first has some spunk though. Those HS tracks and all.

Jon Fiore was going to come along to MRF1 when HS were still on the bill.

Just listened to the samples from the front page......VERY underwhelmed. HUGE style change. Now they sound like every other entyry-level AOR/MR act trying to make it out there. I guess Eklund was the principle songwriter.
