The best picture i saw by a lanslide was on a Samsung 40 inch 3d tv 1080p led. None of the other tvs even came close They wanted 1000 bucks for it and i have looked at both the 3d on a samsung(which is active-you have to buy your glasses and put batteries in them), and the Lg which is a passive system (4 sets of glasses come with the set) and it wasn't even close , the Lg was easily superior when it came to 3d picture.
A couple of points...as I said previously, an electronics showroom isn't the place to judge one technology over the other. In terms of brightness, sure the LCD's are brighter. They will ALWAYS be brighter. That's the entire point of LCD technology. A brighter picture does not equal a better picture. Most people who are sticklers for a great picture (and I count myself among that group) will tell you that LCD's are artifically bright, which isn't a good thing for some of us. Also, you need to understand that the TV's on display in stores like Best Buy have endless people picking up the remote and screwing with the settings, so you really don't have a level playing field for comparing anything. I've been heavily into the home theater scene for 20 years. I'm not an expert, but understand the different technologies on the market. I have 6 LCD TV's in my house, but the TV in my family room (our main room for watching TV)is a 65 inch Panasonic plasma. I'll personally take the picture quality over plasma every single time. At some point, we'll all be forced to buy LCD's, as plasmas will eventually be phased out. Until then, I will continue to watch plasma displays. One other thing...I think LG makes garbage products. Their products almost always rank very low through Consumer Reports, and I agree with their assessment, given my experience with the reliability (or lack thereof) of their products.
Went back to best buy today and looked at some Panasonic plasmas, 42, 46, 50 inch . The 42 and 46 struggled with anything white(it all looked grey) i had the manager come over to see if he could fix it and the briteness setting was half way so he turned it all the way up and nothing changed.

thats 2 different companies with the same issue. I did notice that the panasonic set was not giving off as much heat as the other plasmas i looked at , and shockingly the 50 inch insignia plasma actually looked a little better than the samsung in the same size category but it was very dark(still very clear but everything was on the dark side).
From what i can see the plasmas create a darker image of every color(which in some cases is not acurate) the color of the best buy shirts (running on their digital feed)is better represented on the lcd/led's whereas the plasma makes the lite blue shirt into a dark blue color, almost navy(still looks good but it was the least accurate of all the sets).I would have to guess that if the lcds are fake bright , then in the same token , the plasmas are fake dark. Its clear that watching sports is much better on the plasma almost no blur noted, where as the lcds are horrible in this area , unless you go 240hz(even then plasma looks better). The last thing i noticed was the plasma sets that had the glossy screens looked a bit sharper than the sets without .
I think both sets have their advantages and disadvantages and between the 2 types lcd and plasma its a trade off (plasmas cost almost twice as much to run but cost a lot less than the same size lcd counterparts, when being bought in the store. The sports are better on plasma but accurate color is better on lcd, do you want your tv to pop with brite colors , or do you want it to be sharp and darker.
Still , after looking at all these sets neither lcd or plasma came close to touching the quality on the 40 and 46 inch samsung led 1080p 120hz sets(it wasn't even close) the 40 inch has the 3d as well for a grand , the 46 didnt have the 3d and was 1100. I personally would go back in size to the 40 inch because that set was just fantastic, all screen and hardly a bezel, super lite, cost about a third of what the plasmas run at and the picture blew away the competition.
