The sound of the Donati version has more of a "metallic" drumming sound (like he's hitting metal skins) whereas the Deen version has more of a deeper "thump" sound to it.

Do you echo Duncan's sentiments that Donati's version is better?

I like musical nuances and virtuoso musicians a lot, but I have a hard time believing drums/a different drummer are going to turn crappy songs into good ones.

For the most part, Soul Sirkus is (somewhat ironically, of course) a lot like Chickenfoot. No songs.

Soul SirkUS is decent, but not nearly as good as I thought it would be based on the impressions around here.

I've never even been motivated to pirate their stuff. Just the name kills it for me, sort of like Chickenfoot.

It's been my experience that bands with weird names aren't very good unless they're in the punk or electronic music genres.

I take it that you do your best to abstain from listening to too much emo music, then?

A little above generic overall. Truthfully, I never listened to it past three or four times. I was never going to get into it.

The rhythm work on 'Periled Divide' is just spectacular.

guys..gals..come on now...for relative comparison...this album is easily 10 times better than both of the Chicken Foot albums...it has its own vibe, its definitely melodic, it rocks and has Neal and JSS...despite the poor parting of ways between those two, at least we get to hear a great collaboration in full form. for my money, as much as i appreciate Donati, Some of Deans best playing, most reminiscint of Hardline. saw them with Donati and i kinda felt like the drums werent syncing up...great solo by Virgil, but his groove on the tunes seemed off. of course, virgil in his element is INSANE...just wasnt feeling it here....anyway a niche album for a niche market, glad it was made

Pulled this out for another try as I've never been able to get into it, 6 tracks in I've had enough with 12 more to go its way too long. Average songs that tend to plod, mine is Donati version which is too heavy on the symbols which sound distorted to these ears anyway. Not a fan of JSS voice, shouts in tune imho, but he is somewhat better on the wet cd.

I prefer the Donati version. Deen played more basic straight ahead, Virgil added alot of subtle and non subtle nuances. Marco also added some really cool bass parts too. Neal's most aggressive playing since HSAS.
Both Chickenfoot cds have their moments but overall it only makes me miss what Satriani and Schon could have done together if Planet US had panned out.

I had a friend pirate it so I'm not sure which version. Any telltale signs to distinguish?

Alive Again, Marco's bass and voice "instrumental" and Jeff's acapella solo tune were not on the orignal version.

"World Play" is one of my favorite hard rock releases of the last few years. I love it, especially "Highest Ground", "New Position", and "Periled Divide".
